I will let the pictures speak for themselves. I was like a kid on Christmas Eve waiting on this bow to arrive. I wasn't disappointed either.
The only thing that I ask, is that, while you are drooling over the pictures.....help me come up with a name for this fine piece of craftsmanship.

beautiful bow...
Gorgeous!
The riser colors remind me of a sunrise here in Colorado...I'd call it "Whispering Dawn"
awesome looking bow, I really like the different woods & lams... Congrats
she's a beauty!!!
sharp bow for sure
Speechless, these custom bows are works of art. That riser is amazing.
The big question is "Does it shoot straight?"
Very nice!
Wow , a superb bow
Please let us know were you order this bow
Richard
Don,
That is a beautiful bow. I assume the riser is cocobolo and bacote with curly myrtle on the back and the limbs have a bocote wedge with curly myrtle laminations. That is a great combination. Obviously there is some black in there that would be ebony or black fiberglass or phenolic or something of the sort. The big question still is: how does it shoot? Also, do you want to sell it? The weight is a little light for me, but I could make it work. :-)
Allan
Don,
I thought of a good name: "Allan's Bow".
Allan
pretty fiddleback on the limbs and riser.nice choice!
Thanks for the compliments guys...I'm still grinnin' ear to ear.
Allan.....you pretty much hit the nail on the head with your posting of the woods in the bow. The black is phenolic...I believe, because I can't make out any grain in it.
Unfortunately, I can't get out to shoot it just yet, I'm watching two of our grand-children today and my wife doesn't get off work until 5. So, I can't comment on its *shoot-ability*, just yet, but stay tuned.
And.....NOPE.....she aint for sale.
Spencer, I REALLY like the sound of "Whispering Dawn"......thanks for the suggestion.

Who makes these? And the flare looks like Black/White Ebony to me..could be Macassar too.
More details please.
Sharp looking bow for sure.
Mike,
Elmer Patton out of Wynne, Arkansas made this bow as well as making a few models in addition to a Blackfeather.
The woods are cocobolo and bacote with curly myrtle on the back and the limbs have a bocote wedge with curly myrtle laminations. The limbs have bamboo cores, and I believe the black is phenolic.
While I haven't got to shoot it yet, I have shot a Blackfeather before, and I fell in love with the way it shot. Thanks David
With a suggestion as to arrows to shoot, another trad member suggested XX75 1916's cut to 30.5 with 125 grain tips. That should come in very close to being the arrow for the bow, at my draw length. I ordered a dozen of them and I'm gonna find out.
Elmer's bows are true works of art, and my intention is to pass this one along to one of my grand-sons in future years.
If anyone wants Elmer Patton's contact information please let me know and I will gladly pass it along. He is truly a joy to work with during the building process and is also a pleasure to talk to.

nice bow winterhawk. why not call it hawks talon :clapper: or better still take it into the woods and shoot it some and let it tell you what it should be.
Don,
Congratulations on on your drop dead gorgeous Black Hawk. Suffice it to say that Elmer is an artisan and his bows are great shooters to boot! I've had 3 of them. I foolishly sold my second one and just recently picked up a used one as my third Black Hawk.
Bill
Jeff...
Did you read MY mind, I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing. :archer:

I think, I'm gonna have a little *stump-session* and what the bow has to say.

That is by far the prettiest bow I have ever laid eyes on! Double congrats. coincidence I got my Blackfeather from another tradganger today. Wow they shoot great! I might have to call Elmer and get one going like yours. Pm sent
Terry
Don, I talked to Dad today and the riser is made of Cocobolo and Zebrawood with Ebony accent stripes. Limbs are Actionboo centercore with veneers of high figured curly myrtle. Glad you like it and good luck with it.
Hey winterhawk heres a name i didnt see how about "deadsexy" and that is one nice looking bow congrats
Thanks.....Chris,
See guys....I'm so danged happy that I can't even remember what the woods are. :knothead:
I talked to your Dad earlier today and he told me again what the woods were, sometimes things just don't soak in. I hope to have him build me another one or two in the future.
Winter Hawk
Don, Congrats on your Blackfeather. Elmer makes AWESOME bows!! Call her Cotton, I know it is Quiet. LOL

Thats a work of art you have!!! I'm sure a name will come to you as the sweetness soaks in.
That is gorgeous. Let us know how it shoots.

That is an awesome bow...the looks are amazing and really gets me excited.
I have a bow on order that is going to have a Cocobolo riser with Curly Myrtle limbs over bamboo cores. I'm all fired up now that I've seen what it will look like when it's complete. WOW!!!
Amazing...
Josh
That is about as purty as they can get!! Congrats and enjoy!
Don Im happy for you . I know you have been wanting a nice Blackfeather for awhile and I must say that is one of the best looking bows I have seen . Let us know how it shoots .
Mike
Thanks....Mike.
I got out last evening and shot until my home-made tie-on nocking point unwound. The bow shoots VERY well....much better than the person doing the shooting. I was only shooting from 20 yards but I think my first dozen arrows were all in the kill zone.
The dang mosquito's were eating me up and I just couldn't take it any longer. I should get the arrows that I ordered for it today, and I'm going over to a friends and have him tie me on a movable nocking point and I hope to finish settling the string in this evening. I will post back later and perhaps even take a few pictures to post.
I believe that I am going to be VERY happy with this bow, and plan on making my FIRST traditional harvest with it, this fall. I'm really anxious to shoot these 1916's, I was shooting 2016's last evening and wasn't doing to bad. We'll see and I will post more later.

wow
I normally dont go for bows with contrasting risers but that one would definately be an exception for me. Awesome looking bow.
