Title: Long Bow hunt in a blind???
Post by: SirRobin77 on August 01, 2008, 12:09:00 AM
I was just wondering if this is even possible because most all long bows ive seen are 68+ inches and most blinds are only 62-68.Does anyone do this here??

I use one with a 72 inch longbow. Its still kinda tight in there; you have to sit in one corner and you can shoot out the opposite end; and the front.
Its kinda designed for duck hunting with a gun; or other pass shooting. You can stand up with a gun and shoot up. I think- I use it with my longbow.
I am 6-3 and I am pretty happy with it.
Its a tad heavier than some other blinds; but it works with my longbows. I have had elk and deer in the winter out of season- and feeding in my alfalfa walk within inches of it with me in it.
Made for some good pictures  :)

I have a Yukon Tracks model that's over 70" tall, I think 78. It's big enough to sleep in if you wish. Very quick to set up and take down.

I shoot a 64" longbow and hunt from ground blinds, I don't like anything (blind) less than 68" wide and 68" tall. I don't have a problem with this size.

I was having problems with my 68 selfbows (limb tip was hitting blind on release making a noise I know antelope could hear) in a blind I bought. So I pulled out my 64 pronghorn. I still cant shoot out the shoot-tru mesh but I can kneel and shoot thru the ports with the Meland. If I were to buy another I would get one bigger (this one was a deal). I suppose I could dig out a little and get the other 4 inches I need for the selfbow.

Check the link to the Ameristep Penthouse blind.  I'm about 6'3", over 300#, and my main bow is a 66" longbow--plenty of room in the Penthouse.  Biggest blind I've seen on the market (you can literally park an ATV under it), and the price isn't bad either.  I managed a whitetail, fox, raccoon, and squirrel from mine last season.

My Yukon Tracks is called the Enforcer. The only problem I have with it is high window height, so I can't shoot from a normal seat height. I would rather not have to stand to shoot to avoid the movement. Now they have one called the Enforcer Elite that has lower windows. They are both 70X70X80".

I have purchased two different blinds for an antelope hunt in a couple of weeks.  One is the Escape Deluxe and the other is the Primos Vision.  The Escape deluxe is 75" tall and the vison is 70" tall.  I am 6-4 and I shoot my 62" and 64" longbows out of both.  It does take practice to get used to shooting from a blind.  The shorter blind works better sitting in a chair or on a stool.  The taller blind works better standing because of the window height.  I usually bend my knees while shooting to lower my height and not hit the top with the bow limbs.

Although both blinds seem to have the same construction (both made by the same company), the Vision seems to be a real value.  It is Predator Camo and has windows that are somewhat similar to the Dark Horse DB--very wide open shooting arreas.  It is less than half the price of the Dark Horse.  I have left both out for several weeks while practicing, through storms and wind, and have not had a problem with them.

I have an earlier version of the penthouse, not as tall, but still plenty of room for my 70" longbows

Ive got the Ameristep Bighouse, and have no problem shooting my 68" HH out of it. It's a full 7 feet tall, with plenty of room, and is a hub style blind, so it goes up easy, and packs up just as easy. I had a hoop style blind, and fought for a half hour trying to get it folded back up. This one is a breeze to fold up.

Anybody try the Ameristep Doghouse blind with a longbow?  It's on sale at Cabelas right now.  Dimensions are 68H x 60W.  I shoot a 68inch longbow, but am wondering if this would work since I cant the bow a bit.  Any experiences with this blind?
