What was your nephew doing at denton hill? He wouldn't go without you?
It was the Don Ward from Eagles Flight. I saw his plaque lying on his display table yesterday morning at ETAR.
He goes by 2fletch on here.
Congrats Don!
You're first place with me bowdoc! :bigsmyl:
Congrats Don! You guys should see him do that trick behind his back...LOL

Guy's:
You know "Bowdoc" is just a little guy, if his head gets too big he will fall over from the shear weight of it all!!!!
Bob
Thanks "Batman", you missed a good one. For the "Eagle Eye" you have to qualify by hitting a 1 1/4 inch orange dot on the side of a deer at $2.00 per shot. After that it's an eliminator where you shoot at a 3 inch dot at a distance of 15 to 20 yards. We ought to start doing something like that at local events. It's fun and a good crowd pleaser.
There were 2 previous winners in the field of about 35 qualifiers and my goal was to just to not miss the whole target on the first round in front of a crowd of what looked like about 1500 fellow archers. I was the fourth shooter and the first to hit the target. Then two other guys (who I was told were brothers) hit the dot as well). On round two one of the brothers missed, so then it was just two of us. I believe that it was the next shot that I made my one bad shot which was about 5 - 6 inches to the left. Now it was up to the other guy to win, but he missed as well. Finally, on round seven (I believe) he missed by less then an inch and it was mine.
It was sweet to shoot against these guys, and I knew when it was over that I was very fortunate. At age 64, it's something I'll always cherish. Denton Hill is a beautiful place in the middle of "God's Country" and just to be there is awesome. I felt truly blessed.
Don (Bowdoc) Ward, I'm sorry about the mix up. I have the same problem with the head thing. My wife had to help me get it into the car when we left. We gotta be related.
Slayer1, I'm going to have to get a new act. The kid (Chris) that puts on his act (at ATAR and ETAR) just added that to his routine and he does it better than I do.
  for Don! great shooting. maybe we can do an Eagle Eye at ATAR next year.
Fatman, yes it was the "Beeler" bow. That little bow is sweet to shoot, and shoots where you point it. Dave Beeler makes a very nice little bow. I'd shoot it again next year at Denton Hill, except for the rule that you have to set out a year.
Good job Don!
You are the man Don , good shooting !
Mike
Congratulations Don! I watched that event and it was really exciting to see. A real crowd pleaser, but I can't imagine the pressure you must have had shooting in front of all those people and for all the cash!
Way to go!
Way to go, Don!!! Congrats on some fine shooting!!
David
Hey Don, Congratulations!!! I will be posting some pics of that sweet quiver I bought from you as soon as I get some arrows made up to load it with. Dave
You da man my brother,ya gotta love it.Aromkr is right on the money when us short guy's head swell we fall over backward my wife reminds me of that several times a day...Maybe next year,we will have a chance to meet in person....PS there are at least one more of us,whom used to be pictured in TBH magizine quite often......He was a younger fellow usely pictured with a wild turkey he harvested in an add for the dart shooting system.....I used to tell everyone that was me too......have a great day....bowdoc
:clapper: Congratulations Don. I need a shooting lesson.

Thanks Guys, this was a dream come true. I felt truly blessed to win this event. There were some really good shooters there and luck favored me for just long enough to win.
Dennis, it's good to hear from you and I hope that you are doing fine. Come on up and shoot with me. We'll learn together.
Danny, that would be a great idea. Any kind of eliminator round gets a lot of crowd interest. Having to qualify first takes the pot on up. At Denton Hill they give 50% to the winner and 50% to PBS. Any kind of charity (such as St Jude's) will help encourage people to participate.

I can't believe that I did that. (The echo posting.)
Don (Batten) let's talk about doing some competitive shooting on the local level. I can think of 4 or 5 guys in NC who could be competitive in an "Eagle Eye' type setting. I tried about 10 years ago to get something going in team shooting but internet wasn't so available then. It could be based on club or locality and could be from 2 to 5 members. Women and youth could be included with handicaps for the youth.
If you have any interest in this then give me a hollar.
It sounds good Don. I'd be up for it. Are you going to the shoot a Sissipaw? If so we could talk about it there. Don
Congratulations, 2fletch. That was awesome. Jawge
Don, when is that shoot? There is one at Guilford Bowhunters on the 30th.
Don our fun shoot is Saturday the 16th.We will have a hog and smoked turkeys this year.Better come. :)

Great, Don (Ward - this time - LOL), just great! Glad to hear it, couldn't happen to a nicer guy. For any who don't know him, Don is about as pleasant a person to talk to, deal with, and see around a shoot as you could ask for.
