I have spent a lot of $$ and time buying and trading bows since the end of last season and have settled on 2. Still up in the air which will be primary and which will be the backup.
I have also picked the arrows and broadheads to shoot this season. Luckily both bows shoot the same arrow set up. Our season in here NC open in seven weeks, Sept 13, and I am ready as far as gear. Now it just a matter of getting mentally ready and practicing.
Have you picked your bow, arrows, and broadheads? Are you ready for your season to open?
I think I'm all set. I'll be using my new Chinook with AD's tipped with a couple limited edition Silverflames and a few Abowyers. My backup bow will be my Mahantango longbow with the same arrows. If I'm fortunate enough to make some meat early then I'll bring out my new to me Jerry Hill also shooting the same arrows.
I'm ready. For elk Widow PSA with Legacy 2020 and 180 grain silverflame. For deer Widow PL same arrows but with 190 grain TreeShark.
I will be shooting my RER Arroyo with Heritage 150s that weigh in at 500 grains, and I shoot 54#s at 28.5"s. A Snuffer will be on the business end. That has been my go to bow for the last couple years. I also have a new RER XR that is 53#s at my 28.5"s that I have settled on Cedarsmith tapered cedars spined 77#s on the button with a 160 grain snuffers on them. I will hunt with this bow after I have a few deer under my belt with the Arroyo. Shawn
Since the end of last hunting season i've had lot's of change. Had a stroke and now on disability. Had to scrap my homemade recurve "killer" my bow for the last 15 years. also switching to carbons for the first time. I like them. Ted Fye fixed me up and tuning has been easy. Dryad bows fixed me up with a new Orion made to my new specs. I could understand the drop in my drawing strength but how my draw shortened up two inches is still a mystery to me. The Orion has fixed that problem. Still getting used to screwing broadheads and points in to the shafts. Loose points have always bugged me. Still thinking of getting the old woodies out and cutting them off to fit the new me. Got a bear trip lined up for a couple of weeks from now so I'm in the hurry stage. Got a couple more bows forsale to finance my stable. If interest ed shoot me a PM.
YES!!!!!
Yes I have . Dakota by Rick Welch. 59@28 , Grizzly stiks and simmons tree sharks. 670gns. hits like a mac truck. DB
Yep, My Homemade Osage 3pc Hybrid 52@26" with 28" Arrow Dynamic Nitro Stingers and a 250gr STOS (125gr head w/ 125gr adaptor) on the business end. These arrows fly perfect and are EFOC. I cant WAIT!!!!!!!
Lewis, I've been playing around with the Nitro Lites....at 29" with 250gr up front, gives a 500gr arrow w/ 30% FOC. Shoots from every bow from 45# to 61#....should be good Medicine....
Yeah, have it pretty much settled. Robertson Longbow, 62", 55 lb @ 26"; 700 gr laminated birch arrows; Ace Express 165 broadheads. I'll be hunting Illinois whitetails. :archer:
Thats what I have, its right at 500gr. And boy do they shoot good. I was shooting the Trad-lites but they were just a tad heavier than I liked when I tried to get the EFOC so I went with the nitro lites and they are perfect. I shoot them out of my 45 and 52 pound bow and they fly like darts!
I'm charged up about my setup this year. I feel it's the best fitting setup I've had in my hands yet. Pure confidence.... just put the "one" infront of me Lord! ;)
56" Widow PTF and 615 grain MFX shafts with Woodsman heads.
Ready! Great Plains Palo Duro recurve at #50.
520 grain Gold Tips with Magnus 4 blade 130's for hogs, 125 gr. Snuffers for deer.
Back-up bow Martin Hatfield #50 recurve,I hate to call it a back-up, because I shoot them both equally.
When I feel like hunting with a longbow, I'll use my #48 Don Dow Stikbow, sweet shooter.
Hog hunt this weekend! Deer opens here in Fl.
Aug 28!
The Robertson LB is in the starters spot, but the Northern Mist Shelton is threatening. If the Shrew dont change his attitude he'll be hanging on the peg!
And a good 750g ash or hickory arrow with 2 blade cutter on the front.
Eric
Looks like I'm down to 2-the Rose Oak and the Hoyt Gamemaster-not sure yet which one will be primary and which will be backup. Looks like the Habu and the Palmer will be sitting out this season
Got some nice bows in the stable but have not picked my hunting bow yet for this fall. They all shoot good and i like em all.Been buying and trading alot of bows since last season.Or really for 15 years.Anyway will make the decision in Sept.Might have a few more in the stable by then.It might be a romantic decision or one based on more pracitical reasons.whatever it is its gonna be fun.Once I decide though i will only shoot that one bow for 3 months or more.
Yeah I'm ready, I have my only Bow ready to kill its first deer this season! I'll be in the woods with my 50# Montana Longbow shooting some CE Heritage 150's tipped with 125gr Snuffers along with a 50gr brass insert that weigh in around 530 grains!!!!!! I looking at adding a new bow to the stable, Hopefully this time next year I'll be tuning a Marriah Chinook! I just have to pull the trigger! :bigsmyl:
Yes pretty close.. it's down to a 60# 60" Griffin as primary and a 59# 56" Super Shrew as back-up. Elk arrows are fir and fitted with 125 gr. Grizzly's for 620 grn. total weight and Gold Tip 5575 with 160 Grizzly's and 75 grn steel adapters at 545 gr. for deer. Both arrow choices fly great.
Now all I need are willing animals.. wish me luck!
Gene Carroll
I have hunted with Black Widow's for the last twenty years. This year I will hunt with a John Strunk selfbow, sitka spruce shafts with a WW head and flint heads
My own self bow & some 60-65# ash w/160 grn points
Was going to go 1970's trad and use my old stuff with both primary bow and back up bow being Bear recurves from the 1970's and using Bear greenies on wood POC shafts, and old Bear bow quivers. But it looks like I will have to take most of the season off to rehabilitate a bad knee that is getting surgery real soon. Too bad, I have been shooting well. It looks like old age is catching up with me. Things are falling apart a little too quickly -- getting old is not for wimps. Maybe back in the woods in late season if things heal quickly. If not, I'll be back better than ever next year.
Have fun out there!
My goto bow 70# bighorn recurve and a new arraw setup easten 340 full metal jackets cut to 29" w/415 grains up front 29% EFOC total weight of 756 grains w/a Grizzly el grande on the buissness end.Had to try the Ashby thing.Hopefully a huge Arizona bull will be the first to volenteer for testing.Good luck to all.
Bow: Liberty English 54#
Arrow: 2115 XX75
Broadhead: Bridgeport machined ElGrande 175gr
Hope so- got a Black Widow last March: PAII, 58" 52 lbs@29". Sitka tapered shafts with 125gr ACE heads, arrows work out to about 560gr.

Sorry to hear about your upcoming knee surgery I sure hope everything turns out well! Heal up and count your blessings you are still breathing. Just a thought...you don't have to walk far to get a shot at a deer. Maybe you could build a ground blind with a nice comfy seat close to where you park and start feeding a little corn to get them close to ya.
My friend had his knees replaced when he was 75 years old, and was back hunting in a few months. He just took it easy and enjoyed the warmer weather more. I'm going to be using my 54" Bob Lee one pc hunter 46# @ 28 I have been shooting that pretty serious lately but I have a couple Grizzlies for back up. The 50 pound-er I bought from Mcgroundstalker or should I say the one he darn near gave me because that is the kind of guy he is, will see some action also
Shrew Samurai and Woodsman heads. Simple and deadly combination.
My favorite bow......57# Yellowstone 64" longbow with 650 grain ash arrows tipped with 2 blade Magnus. If I decide to change I can go to #2. A 55# 64" Yellowstone longbow & shoot the same arrows
Yes. Northern Mist Reverse Handle Whiper Longbow, 51@28, P.O. Cedar Custom Cedar Arrows, from Paul Jalon of Elitearrows.com, and 145GR Grizzly BH's. Have some Magnus Journeyman's in 145 GR ready to go too.
I have a lot of bows running from selfbows to a couple of DAS and Titan recurves. Will start early season with a bamboo/osage bow with cedars while the woods are thick.Later as the leaves fall I will end up with something shooting light weight carbons near warp speeds. :) It is all good. :D
titan riser 53 lbs @28 hoyt limbs, axis 400 with 150 grain magnus 2 (about 450 total) ELK, BEAR, DEER, Hogs, Turkeys watch out!
Yea Barry it will be my new 60 in. Treadway 47 lbs @ 28 in. , 2016 with 125 4 blade stingers . Made my last trade for awhile , need to stick with one bow if Im going to get proficent with it .
