Hey all, I picked up some 125gr Snuffers yesterday and tried them out today, they have a hissing sound when shot. I'm shooting a longbow at 50#, CE Heritage 150's with 5" Shield cut feathers for a total weight of around 560gr's! I have tried LWH and RWH to no avail, same hissing sound from both. They fly perfect except for the hissing! Any input would help!
Thanks!
yup they do that, I myself couldnt figure out how to fix it,
I've thought about rounding off the vented parts or the head with a file to give it a somewhat smoother QUIETER flight, just a thought though
They haven't done that for me yet - very quiet (or I'm very deaf, one or the other)!
Dip the tip in vasoline (fill the vent), that's if ya don't like the hiss of death.
It's not uncommon with Snuffers. Some call it the "Hiss of Death".
The only time I get a whistling sound from a Snuffer is if the aren't mounted straight. I have had problems with Snuffers (and Woodsmans)that have the inserts installed from the factory. I buy them in a glue on and install the adapters myself, then twist them until I have no noise. Good luck! Mike
I align mine in a "V". mainly because I want to look "through" the head when aiming and I haven't had any hisses when shooting my 160 grain Snuffers. I also use HB Shields for them, full helical wrap for added stability.

+1 Mike I have had the same thing in the past. Another thing I have done is take the factory angle or edage off with a flat mill bastard file and then sharpen on a stone of your choice by holding the head by one blade and running the other two flat across the stone by doing this I have lost the hiss and gained a razor sharp edge that will pop hair. Good luck
Thanks guys! I have only been shooting one of the heads! Tomorrow I'm going to try a different head and see what happens! I do love the flight I'm getting out of them! I wish I would of know that they come in a 170gr screw in, would of made things easier! I bought the 125gr screw in and use 50gr brass inserts! Oh well!
Hey Dano, do you have a problem hunting with them when dipped in vasoline?? Does it freeze when its cold-cold???
I must admit the "hiss of death" is kinda cool!
Spin test all your heads and make sure they spin perfectly straight. After that, if they still hiss, don't worry about it. General opinion is the deer never notice it until it's too late.

I thought about trying this, I'm going to give it a go tomorrow! Thanks again guys!
