Any other members use Hennessy Hammocks? I bought the HH Explorer Deluxe last year, used it on my Colorado 2 week elk bow hunt and on several hunts on my deer lease in Ga. Loved it. I sleep so well in it that when it cools off in Fla. I sleep in it behind the house. Wife/kids think I'm nuts, but I sleep like a baby. Its kinda a pain getting in a sleeping bag in it but once in man is it comfortable. Only weighs 3 lbs., I can set it up and tear down in 2 minutes. Really loved it elk hunting, didnt have to spend time looking for a level spot and clearing rocks. Two trees is all I need. I got the larger "hex" fly and would strongly recommend it. I am up off the ground, so when it pours I dont worry about the rain. I slept in snow and some real gully washers in Co.,stayed dry. Its a little colder than a tent, what with the air underneath u but I put my 3/4 thermarest pad inside and my 20 degree North Face down bag inside a gore-tex bivy bag (Isratex brand US military bivy bag I got off E-Bay)inside and slept in the snow and was plenty warm. Only other drawback is u can't bring all your gear inside. But I sleep so much better in this thing I do not care. I just leave my pack(Eberlestock Just One) outside with my pack cover on.
Cool mate. I too am looking into a Hennessy as well. If you've some pics post away as there site is not real clear on e'm.

Here's an excellent writeup about the HH along with some good photos. It looks like a very appealing option for a bushwhacking bow hunt anywhere good trees can be found.

Got one of the early models. I've strung it up everywhere, and I like it a lot. Only problem is I want to get one of the new ones with a bigger fly and an underpad for cold weather, but mine won't die.
I have seen some good deals on them on e bay...mine has the larger hex fly...well worth it !
not in NV! zI love a good hammock, too
I have the Big Boy sized one and have used it on Kauai a couple of times.
they are good value for money in my books. i have had tents but to much hassle to put up and take down and there is the extra weight to carry. with the hammock no problem no poles = no extra weight.
I have one and love it the first time I got in to sleep I thought to myself "I will never sleep in this thin..........."and then I woke up in the morning.LOL
The next night it started to rain and I thought to myself"I am going to get we....."and I woke up the next morning. When you get over the whole hanging thing they are the best thing to sleep in in the bush. They are much cooler than a swag though so add a bit more sleeping bag than if on the ground.
The only time I have been dissapointed was when I woke up on a goat hunt and there was goats all around me in the stand of trees I had hung it and I couldnt get to my bow and shoot from the hammock.LOL
Cheers KIM
hmm wich one should i buy for i dont want to get the wrong one im 5,5
Read a book called hammock camping and it gives many ideas on set up, staying dry and staying warm.
Look it up for info.
DEATHMASTER
I have one and I am still trying to figure out how to use it. The first night in it I froze my ars off , the second I pulled a space blanket in and wore long underware and started frying. I am still fighting with proper setup and the sleeping bag in and out is still a hassle but seems comfy once you get situated. I am setting it up the next couple of weekends camping trying to figure out the best way to stay warm and set her up fast and right. Some good ideas from that Kifaru site thanks
I have one and have used it twice. Used it for the first time on an elk hunt last year. There is a learning curve to staying warm but it is much more comfortable than sleeping on the ground. At one point my hunting partners did point out that I looked like a "bear burrito".
set mine up today and it was good. I will put a bag in it tomorrow and do the sleeping thing. I will use it over the next several weekends and let you know what happens.Worried about the cold.
They have so many options I don't know what I should get. I live in Washington state and it rains a lot. I am just under six foot and like extra room. Any help?
I have the Explorer Deluxe (6'4" 250lbs.) At some point I am going to get the larger rain fly for some extra coverage. During a bad storm when the rain was coming sideways, the bottom of the hammock did get a little wet. If I were to buy one today I would probably get the Safari Deluxe, it wasn't available when I bought mine.
Lots of people seem to like the Jacks-R-Better. Has anyone compared them?
I have a Clark Jungle Hammock and it's the cat's meow. I'm taking it on my elk hunt this year. We'll be in a NASTY canyon that would be a PITA with a tent.

Back when I hiked on the AT I used a hammock and a nylon tarp. One of these would have been so nice. Someone, can't remember who, had one last fall at the Rough Mountain Hunt and it was great looking. I sleep much better in a hammock than on the ground, even with a sleeping pad.
