Title: arrow crest wraps?
Post by: bailebr3 on July 23, 2008, 06:02:00 PM
how much do the crest wraps effect arrow flight? i have always heard it stiffens them....and wouldnt the extra weight of them effect flight? just curious. thought about getting some for this seasons hunting arrows.

I cant imagine that a wrap would effect it to much.  They weigh just a few grains.  I bare shaft with the wrap on you can do that.

bailer3,

Don't over look this factor.  I have arrows that when I added wraps, they were way too stiff.  I used paint, and they came back into line.  Naturally it is not a factor until you get to the borderline area.  This is why bareshafting is so important,  put a heavy wrap on and get it close, then fletch them and have them hit the spot.  I love the ease of wraps, but they are really heavy when compared to dips, or paints(if you thin them correctly), when I buy wraps I go to "Onestringer".

They have even made some traditional 11 1/2 wraps for me, good people, quality product.

I've been using reflective tape as my wraps for years...makes it REAL easy to see them in the dark!
I use my airbrush to paint on fades and such.
I agree, add your wrap and then bareshaft...seems to work for my crappy shooting!  :)

Usally adding weight to the rear of arrows will stiffen the spine alittle, but wraps are usally 10-13 grs.I prefer to bare shaft with wraps if I'm using wraps to get as close as possible in tuning.Onestringer has some great looking traditional style wraps,my wrap supplier.
