Title: First 3-D shoot of the year is this a good score?
Post by: 2Blade on July 19, 2008, 06:04:00 PM
Me and my little cousin went to our first shoot this year. I picked him up and we made it over to the shop a little late but not bad. We shot 30 targets I even shot from 30 yards and actually never missed a shot I was shocked to say the least.

This was my first shoot ever with a longbow I went last year with my takedown recurve but target panic got the best of me so I shot close. Now that I have the clicker and was shown how to use it I have no fear of missing I knew I was gonna do good. Anyhow out of 30 targets I shot a 206 out of 300 is this a good score for shooting with a clicker and my first shoot with my longbow?

Thanks to NYRON for showing me how to use a clicker if it wasnt for him I wouldnt have shot today. It feels good being in control again. So Ron if you read this thank you from the bottom of my heart youve made me confident and I will be in a tree this fall with a traditional bow!

Thats pretty darn good for first time.  68% ten rings.  I'd say a good average score.  Good Job!!

Don't know about clickers, never had to use one thank God.

Keep up the good work.

I dunno if I would refer to my little cousin as a clicker, but that is a great starting score nonetheless. I call my husband Mockingbird a little...uh, that's a little off topic, but anyway, my scores aren't as good as yours.

My little cousin went with me to shoot lol. Im trying to get him in to a recurve his dad has hes shot it before but he prefers a modern bow with no sights and fingers. Needless to say hes hooked on the sport he wants to bowhunt reeeeal this year.

BMOELLER- Be very thankful you dont have to use a clicker im just glad I have one or I wouldnt be shooting a longbow or recurve right now its really saved me.

Focus is the key.  My scores jumped from 170-180 for 300, to 230-240 for 300 with confident focus.  Form has to be consistently good.

Are the targets scored 10-8-5?  I.e., 10 for a heart, 8 for lungs and 5 for a body.  If so, a score of 240 would be averaging lungs.

Still working on my form now that im holding so I think once im rock solid my score will jump up. I know when I started to get tired I was jerking my bow arm and making me get more 5s then I cared for. Then I really started to focus on my arm and I started drilling 8s again.

We were shooting Mckenzies the way their setup is dead center on the lungs is a 10 second ring which is lungs and some of the heart are an 8 then anywhere else its a 5. I was doing more lung punching then anything.
