Title: New Bow
Post by: Darkside on July 17, 2008, 06:21:00 AM
Guys,

How you all going, this is a call out for some advice on a new bow. I am currently shooting a Chekmate Hunter Takedown @ 56#. I am looking to purchasing a longbow and seeing that the traditional scene in Oz is quite small, the experience and knowledge is not equal to what you guys have in the states. I have read reviews on the Tomahawk Bows as well as Acadian woods bows. What would you recommend, i want my longbow to be close to 60# as i use all my bows for hunting.

Thanks

Shawn

Are you looking for a one piece or a takedown of some type?  I know many of the fellows down under like T/D becasue they are so much cheaper to ship, and also much easier to fly with if you ever do that.
If you are looking for a one piece Suttoman (from OZ) recently had a beautiful like new Fox Royal Crown listed in the classifieds.  I just received one of those myself and it is a great bow!
Beyond that, there are so many good longbows to choose from.  It is more a matter of what you like personally, and the only way to find that out is to shoot some.  My own personal favorites right now are the Fox, an RER takedown LX longbow, and a John McCullogh Griffin.

I would prefer a one piece as they are the only longbow we can shoot in our ABA shoots, they dont accept takedowns.Being lefthanded and the majority of guys who shoot trad are right handed it makes it difficult to get the cahnce to 'try' a bow before i make decision.

Tomahawk and Acadian Woods are good bows.  As Whip says, lots of good ones out there.  For what it's worth, I'll offer my favorites in one-piece longbows.  I generally like smaller, traditional styled risers.  Bows that I like that fit that category include Robertson's, Great Northerns, Dwyer's and Howard Hills.

i like the shrews and libertys, the shrews are severely reflex/deflex and the liberty I like is the english which is a straight limbed Howard Hill style bow
