My dad, fyrfyter43, recently surprised me with a Black Rhino longbow. He bought it used from someone here on TrandGang. At my draw length of 25.5 inches, the draw weight is about 29-30#.
My dad ordered a new b-50 string from Bobby Graham for me. He also gave me an arm guard from Mike's Archery Leather.
We went to shoot on Sunday. I have a dozen lodgepole pine shafts here to build, but since I haven't started on them yet, I shot a few aluminums that I had for my compound. They're not tuned for my bow, but I think I did OK.

Looking good there Lee S.

You look like a happy camper.
John
cool looking bow you have there lee.looks like you shoot it pretty well too! have fun.
With that smile i think he is hooked on trad archery!!!congratulations NICE BOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the longbow definitely suits him better than the compound.
Shooting the wheeled arrow launcher was just too mechanical for him. He was lucky to hit the bales half the time with his compound...with his longbow, he was breaking balloons nearly every other shot. :goldtooth:
Looks like a natural! Good shooting Lee.
Well done Dad!
well done guys :clapper: :clapper:

Yeah, that's what Dad is for. He didn't even give me a chance to shoot Sunday - kept me busy blowing up balloons.
I always keep a big bag of balloons in my quiver for when I shoot at one of the state ranges with nothing but excelsior bales for targets. I love using them as targets!

I'll get Lee back on here tomorrow night to read everybody's comments. I'm sure that smile will be even bigger then!
The scabs on his legs are from mosquito bites he got on a wilderness survival trek at Scout camp last week. He has a bad habit of scratching them until they bleed.
Nice shooting..Congrats on the bow pal! :clapper: :clapper:
Great looking stick my friend. Are you planning on hunting with it this season?
I wish he would be able to hunt with it this season.
NJ requires a separate hunter ed. course for bowhunters, with a proficiency test. I doubt he could pass it yet, especially because I've heard that certain instructors really give trad shooters a hard time. Not to mention he would need a different bow anyway...minimum draw weight is 35# at the archer's draw length.
By this time next year I'm hoping he can go show those wheelie boys how it's done.
Thanks for all the compliments. I was at my mom's house visiting and when I came back two weeks later, my dad had the bow on his bow rack waiting on me. It was basically shouting "Lee, shoot me!"
I had a blast shooting it and was really happy when I got that group. It is the best group I have ever shot.
I have a lot of fun shooting that longbow!
keep it up Lee.... Your on your way to a great life of Trad archery
