Title: Hand made quiver w/hand made beads ...(pics)
Post by: T-Mac on January 01, 2007, 05:49:00 PM
I shoot archery, my wife does several crafty things like make lamp work glass beads. She has been working on beads for several months now and doing very well in my opinion. I have been lucky enough to get for my personal use some of the rejects. She strung several on a piece of copper wire and we attached them to my quiver. Now they aren’t beads like the natives did them but they look pretty good on the quiver. She is going to make me another strand for the lower part of quiver. Check out these pictures and let me know what you think.

The quiver was a combined effort of wingnut who came up with the leather and pattern for it, and my son Tony (tmccall) who sewed it for me. The quiver was neat in of its self.

The second strand will go at bottom of quiver on the same line as the first. What do you think?

Very nice. Now your wife will be with you when you enjoy your archery.

My wife supports me in my archery quest in hunting as will as just my shooting 3D's. I have always encouraged her in all her art work projects. We have been married for over 36 years and relies that success is shared by both in any endevor we do. She can't wait for me to make my first trad kill. Am looking forward to many more years with her.

I remember seeing my first lamp glass bead~ I was fascinated and had to look them up to see what they were. They look cool no matter where you put them! It is very special to carry a quiver that has the good wishes of so many people within it, you are a lucky archer!

Cool!  I gotta get my beads onto my quiver as well!  They look great.  I recently sent some of Mom's beads to Shell as a thank you for the quivers she's making for the kids.  Maybe she will get on here and show us how she worked them into her own quiver...

Love the look of the beads - and the quiver is neat. I can't get past curiousity about "making beads". I don't want another hobby, art, or craft in my life - LOL, but just a sentence or two about their basic birth would be cool.

Jmatt tony told me he doesn't have the pattern. You can pm him and he said the could tell you what you need to know to make one. He is tmccall on this site.

Bernie all I can tell you is she starts with a torch and rods of glass and a mandrel. She melts the glass onto the mandrel and molds, forms, shapes it into the design she wants. She adds other glass in other colors for different effects. Then she puts them in a 1,ooo degree kilm (sp) for several hours untill they are ready. She also does watercolor and oil paintings as will as stain glass and spoon jewelry. All i can do is watch and shoot a bow somewhat. :bigsmyl:   :archer:
