Which should I use to up the weight on my gold tip arrows, brass insert or weight tube ? 50 gr or 100gr? Will it affect my spine ? I could cut off about an inch. I'm shooting a 65# recurve and have 5575 traditionals and some 7595 gold tips.
Thanks, John
adding weight up front will reduce your spine. I shoot gold tip 5575 out of my 55# recurve cut to 28.75" and with 200grns total up front and 3gpi weight tubes. Arrow comes out finished at 550grns. I bareshaft tuned to arrive at that combination. I recommend you do the same and predict you will need some combination of weight tube and insert weights if you want to come out around 10 grains per pound of draw weight. What that combination will be I can;t tell you offhand because there are too many variables that go into tuning such as string type, brace and knock hight adjustments, amountof center cut, etc..
One tip though when tuning carbons, if you use a bag type target and a bit of paper to make a friction fit between the shaft and insert, you don't have to glue up until you are sure you are dialed in.
For the Gold Tips you should get the weights that screw into the backside of the inserts. You will need to get the looong allen wrench for them.
Just get ahold of John at Sipsey Archery, a sponsor here, and a good guy to deal with. Tell him what ya got, and what you're wantin'. He'll take care of ya.
Add as much of the weight you want to the tip of the arrow by whatever means. There doesn't appear to be a limit to how much forward of center you can use as long as the arrow/bow combo is well tuned to each other.
