Title: G5 Broadhead
Post by: criso on July 07, 2008, 02:49:00 AM
Hi, I'm quite new to bowhunting and I need to choose my "to go" broadhead. After a lot of advises I decided to choose a G5 broadhead, but I can't actually decide between the Montec and the Striker.

I'd like to have a "cut on contact" broadhead and I don't know if the Striker really is one of that, but they have the advantage of the replaceable blades. Pleas help me!

Thank you

Mario

P.S. I have a 50#@29 zipper extreme boo limbs, does someone have a similar bow and measured how fast is it?Thanks

I won't tell you which broadhead I think you should shoot as there are so many that are good quality. I will tell you that we had a couple hunters in bear camp with the G5's and it was near impossible to get them to take an edge and when they finally did they wouldn't keep it.

Good luck

Did it happened with the Montec or also with the Striker? I know that this kind of onepiece 3-blades are quite difficult to sharpen.

It was mainly with the Montec but the Striker was still somewhat difficult to sharpen as well. That was a year or so ago and they may have made some improvements since. I would talk to some people who actually use them and at the same time take a look at some of the other broadheads.

I'd look at SS-Snuffers.....

I am a 2 blade fan.  Ribtek, Magnus, STOS, ACE and Zwickey are all hard to beat.  They all sharpen in a flash and do what they do so well.

if you want to go with a G5 type head then take BobWs advice with the Snuffer SS.  However the SnufferSS is smaller than the regular snuffer and just plain less broadhead.  The SS does seem to have better quality control though for easier sharpening.

I've used both the G5 Montec and the Snuffer SS, killed deer with both heads. My opinion is the Snuffer SS is a superior head. It has better quality steel that holds an edge much better than the Montec. The Snuffer SS was still sharp after pulling it out of the ground while the Montec's edge was rolled over like a butter knife, and it didn't even make it to the ground. Edge must have rolled ove r on a rib. The two heads are nearly identical is size and shape, both fly great. The Snuffer SS definitely gets my vote however.

Thank you all for your opinion! Noone that can answer me about the zipper speed? Just to have an approximate measurement...

i wouldnt worry too much about the speed of your zipper, just make sure it is quiet and the game animal wont know the difference
