Title: Need info, got my dad's Bear Tigercat.
Post by: jamyers22 on July 06, 2008, 04:51:00 PM
Hello, I am Joshua. I just got my dad's Bear Tigercat bow. it has been sitting in a closet for a long time. I want to get it out and start shooting it. He does not know what string it needs. I been looking online but have not found any info to help me in what bowstrings it needs. It has AMO 62" 35#. If I am right, 62" is for the string length and 35# is the draw weight. If you have any other useful info I would like that as well. thanks.

Joshua,

The "AMO" length is basicly the entire length of the bow including the bends of the limbs etc. (i.e. if you took a cloth measuring tape and layed it against the bow, measuring from tip to tip)

Bear bows were all marked pretty standard, your 62" AMO bow takes a 58" string. Check out the Sponsors Classifieds, There are a few really good string makers!!!!!

Your bow takes an AMO 62 string.  That would be a string measuring 59" from loop to loop.  An AMO string is ALWAYS 3" shorter than the number which follows AMO.  Why?  I don't know.  Seems kind of dumb to me, but that's the AMO standard.

I might be wrong but I think 3" is for long bows & 4" is for recurved bows... My 54" shrew takes a 51" string.... My old 60" bear T/D hunter recurved took a 56" string.
