Well today I was at my local pro shop (no one that works in there knows anything about trad bows) buying some new arrows and talkin with one of my buddies who works there. I had my longbow with me to show my friend and some of his co workers (they always seem really intrested when i talk about my longbows/recurves, but still loves the wheels to much). And then some guy walks in with his compund to get a tune up or whatever they do, and seems me standing there with my stick and said "oh thats cute" (he kinda sounded like a prick, and he was talking down to me but I think thats cause im only 19) and i just smiled and said thanks.
So he comes over and asks if i have ever actually killed anything with that thing and I said No sir, but I just got this bow a couple months ago. Then my buddy points to my picture on the wall of me and my recurve with the 10 point P&Y deer i killed last year. He responds by saying well thats a heck of a deer but everyone gets lucky every once and a while. (Im geeting fed up now cause i have never met this guy and he comes in bashing my equipment and my style of hunting) So I say Im pretty good out to about 25 yards with this, how bout we go out back and lets see if you can match my shot.
So we go out back to the mini range and I said I bet you five bucks you cant do exactly what I do and make a better shot. He looks kinda confused of how I said that but of course he isnt going to say anything to me Im just shootin a stick, so i take my quiver off my bow and throw it about 8 feet and the air and let it land in the mud ( on the flat side of course not the tips, im not stupid haha) then pick it up and put an arrow in the "lungs" of the foam deer.
The look on everyones face when i turned around was priceless haha so my buddy and his co worker turn and look at the guy say well do it in a sarcastic voice and he said hell no i aint doin that. He turned to me and laughed and said I wasnt expecting that. We went inside he bought me a candy bar and a coke, he even apolgized for acting like a prick earlier and we shook hands.
I just thought you guys would like to hear this story
Well done!! :clapper:
Pretty cool.Done us proud.
Ethan
you should have had a pic of the other great deer you shot so when he said "everyone gets lucky every once and a while" you can have said NA!
Way to go Curtis. Yeah, ya should have showed him both deer, the one from 2006 and the one from 2007. How is that Kmag treating you?
Danny
great story!
:biglaugh:
A well desired portion of humble pie...well done.
Hey Danny a friend that I met up at school (was a life long gun hunter) became infatuated with my bows and started shooting with me (he shot the k mag and i used my longbow) and by the time we were about to leave for summer I decided I should give him the bow, and help him out the way you did for me. So when he got downstairs about to leave I had someone call him and come back up to the dorms and I snuck down and put the bow in his car with half a dozen arrows, Man when he got home and realized this he called me and sounded like a five year old christmas morning. The only thing I asked is for him to pass it on when he is done with it free of charge.
Ya done good, ataboy!! I have used that same trick with my wheelie buddies, gets em every time
Its a lot more fun when cooler heads prevail! Ya done good!
Awesome, I wish I could have seen ya do that. Would have backed you up if he had got rough.
You did good!!! :clapper:
Great job. People who have to rip on others are just insecure about themselves.
I'd have just asked him how many PnY's he's got.
It's amazing how some folks cannot fathom life without "technology".
Nice job Curtis
:clapper: love it!! :clapper:
You should have told him "It dosent shoot hard enough to kill anything, back up there about 15 yds and let me shoot ya in the arse w/ a blunt." I haven't got any takers on that yet either lol.
Good job.
MDSHOOTER, GREAT JOB!! I HAD TO DO THE SAME THING OR CLOSE TO IT WITH MY OWN BROTHER! HE TOO,ONCE LOOKED DOWN AT ME AND MY TRAD EQUIPT, TILL I PUT HIM IN HIS PLACE ONLY I ASKED HIM TO SHOOT THE SAME WAY THAT I DO,WHICH WAS LYING ON MY STOMACH,BOW PARRELL TO THE GROUND AS IF YOU JUST STALKED UP CLOSE TO A WHITETAIL( ASHOT I PRATICE ALOT) I MADE A DOUBLE LUNG KILL ON A 3D BUCK AT ABOUT 18 PACES, HE TRIED BUT COULDN'T KEEP HIS ARROW ON THE REST(SORRY BRO) THEN HE GAVE UP!! HE NOW SHOOTS TRAD GEAR!!! OH, I HAVE TAKEN AS MANY DEER WITH TRAD GEAR AS HE DOES WITH GUNS, AND TO THIS DAY HE STILL HAS TO GET HIS FIRST WITH ANY BOW,BUT WE WILL CHANGE THAT SOON!!
its funny how tough they wanna act and how fragile their equipment is.
ask them to dunk it in swamp water. give it a few shakes and knock it against your boot to dry off. put an arrow on and it'll still work.
Can we get someone to try that with their matthews or hoyt please?
I always laugh when I see guys on tv walk down a well worn path with their bow axles encased, their sight encased, all worried about a single twig or branch ruining a piece of equipment. Even the sights are a hundred bucks. I don't think many people bushwhack with their catapults.
If someone questions why I'm shooting traditional and if I'm any good (I'm getting better) I usually tell them "anytime you're ready to take the training wheels off let me know"...usually shuts them up.

A couple years agog me and the other guys in my firehouse were getting ready to fling some arrows behind the station. They were all sitting at the picnic table with their allen wrenches etc tinkering. I strung my longbow, and waited till they were ready. Of course when the ribbing started, I pulled a $20 bill out of my wallet, and layed it on the table and bet anyone who wanted I'd beat them at 20 yds with one arrow even steven.
Of course one said I'll give ya 10 yds. I smiled, said ok- and buried an arrow dead center. As he nocked up an arrow, I tapped him on the shoulder, and handed him his wrenches.
I told him now take off the sight, string loop, drop away rest, stabilizer, and release THEN you can shoot from 10 yds.
He declined. I smiled, told him to keep his money and buried another arrow in the target.
