There is a very long deer season (basically Sept - end of Dec, look up zone A-22 on the DFG website). Lots of public land but can be difficult to hunt. Turkey only in the spring. Besides, bowfishing for carp, that's about it in SD. However, you can drive north to hunt hogs but it is almost exclusively pay for play. Oh yea, good black bear hunting but not in San Diego county.

I have not been out there since 1993, but I'm sure my old hnting spot is still there since it is on state land. It is a tough place to hunt in the high desert, but if you are interested I could probably give you pretty good directions to the area so you could scout it. PM me if interested. BTW I did get a deer every year in this spot.
If you can get on camp pendleton there is some real good hunting there.
Thanks Yall, it will be a Fall trip so I will check the deer seasons. At work writing this now but will PM later.
King I can get on pendleton no problem. Didn't' think about the bases.
Thanks again yall,

Didn't pick up on the military angle. Pendleton does have some good hunts.
I used to catch some big bucks coming under the fence at Miramar. There is a small drainage out at the west end of the runway were the deer move freely through a small ravine. There is an easy mountain bike trail that takes you out there.
Get in touch with me and I will do what I can to help. I now live over the hill from San Diego but Know the area well. I lived there from 81 till 98 when I moved over the hill. Alot of great hunting and 3D shoots.
