Title: Pronghorn Taxidermy ??
Post by: John3 on June 26, 2008, 09:56:00 PM
I am asking for antelope mount pics. Any type mount is fine, esp asking for hair on hide tanning pics. I will have two tags and am trying to decide how to mount the 2nd (doe)antelope. I'm thinking of a wall hanging for the hide.

thank you,

John III

is a shoulder mount out of the question? interactive mounts look great and perhaps you could mount the doe grooming the buck? ask this question on taxidermy.netforum and you'll get plenty of ideas and help i'm sure. i'd give you a link but i don't know how.

Two of my favorites are the "Wall Pedestal" and "Tabletop Pedestal" mounts.

A Google Image search should get you some ideas. Or your taxidermist should be able to show you examples in their catalogs.

I know there are photos in the McKenzie Taxidermy catalog just couldn't find them on line. If you go to McKenzie Taxidermy Supply they show photos of the forms just not the completed mounts..have to visualize it.

I've heard that pronghorn hair-on tanning/rugs are very fragile compared to deer hides. If its just a wall hanging vs a throw or rug it should be ok though.

Here's a link:

You might have to register to post.

Don't forget to post photos...jealous already.

I know if I get a buck big enuff to mount, it'll be a tabletop pedestal mount!

Thier hair is quite brittle...not sure how a "rug" would do...I guess if hung on the wall, it would do ok, long as the neighbor kids left it alone!!!lol

Where are ya hunting the speedgoats???

Going in August near Buffalo, South Dakota.

I am hunting about 18 miles from the Montana border.

Looking forward to this trip. I am driving and stopping to see Mt.Rushmore and Crazyhorse on the way out. Then going into Montana to walk the Little Bighorn battlefield on the way home.

If ya have time, take in Devil's Tower, just over into Wyoming as well....It's worth a look-see!!!  Custer State Park is worth a drive thru as well, there close to Mt. Rushmore!!!  I LOVE that country!!!!

JDS3 I am a taxidermis. A antelope rug can be done know problem. Im not crazy about them because, they take up to much room and you will never get the life out of a rug that you would if it was a mounted shoulder mount or lifesize.GOOD LUCK.

I just checked the website and I have been drawn for two Antelope tags. An "any" and a doe tag. Just waiting on the mail and the calendar to turn four more weeks.

Thanks to all for the pics and links about a wall hanging for a doe antelope.  I just need to "do it right" in the South Dakota heat... LOL
