i am trying to figure out how to make some good home made wool or yarn puff silencers. does ne one know where to find some info or a how to?
You can just go to any place that sells yarn...look for wool, the higher the content, the better...
I usually make 3-4 turns around three fingers, just stick it between the strands @ 1/4 or 1/3 (or both)...
works great...
I'm sure there is a tutorial on here somewhere, but here is how I do it. Pretty simple really. Take the yarn(wool or acrylic) wrap it around your hand(at the ends of your finger) about 15-20 times. Cut free from the spool and remove the wrap from your fingers. I then cut it, then cut the lengths in half. Bundle these around the string where you want them and give them a slight twist. Use serving thread or dental floss to tie them onto the string. Tie them as tightly as you can and finish with several overhand knots. Add a drop of superglue to the knot and you are done.
Once you shoot the bow or pop the string a few times they will puff out and then you can take a pair of scissors to trim them to the size and shape that you want.
They will stay in place, but you can slide them up/down the string if needed.
I wrap yarn around a credit card slip in string then snip the ends pull out the card. Mike
What Graywolf said, works like a champ. Once its in the string, string the bow, cut the loops. I push them together to shorten them up and make a denser puff ball.
