Title: Arrow Rest
Post by: Andrew Kreppel on June 26, 2008, 11:17:00 AM
Does anyone know the best type of arrow rest?

Andrew -- that's a broad question. A majority of us shoot off the shelf with no problems whatsoever, and that's the way almost all "bought" bows come. A few use flipper rests, etc., and many or most who shoot homemade selfbows shoot off our hands with no rest at all. So "best" is one of those questions that's relative to bow style and shooter preference. Properly tuned bow and arrows shoot just fine off the shelf and that's my personal preference. Even with my selfbows I file in a small arrow indentation then built up a thin arrow "shelf" of leather. Dave

The Ferret's floppy, best I have ever made/used.

I think you will find it is a personal choice. If you wanted to try one, I would suggest the Bear Weather Rest. It is a stick on, flipper type rest that will only cost a few dollars and works very well.

I have tried them and they worked well, but I didn't notice any advantage over shooting off the shelf.

I'm currently using a feather rest.
Aparently quite common in the 70`s, dirt cheap, easy to make, silent, fairly close to hand and of cours....great arrow flight.
Even with vanes

How could you make a feather arrow rest?

As an FYI - feather arrow rests are $3.50 each at 3Rivers. Even if you don't want to buy one - you can see what they look like. From that you could probably figure out how to make one.

Best is whatever works best for you....

After trying about all of them, I'm sold on the T-300 as best for me.  I use the T-300 on all my recurves as it provides great flight and allows me to shoot either vanes or feathers equally well.

It's simple, durable, and provides excellent arrow flight. If a launcher arm breaks (I've yet to see it happen), it takes only a minute to install a new one w/o taking the rest off the bow.

At around $8.00 the T-300 is fairly "expensive" as far as Trad bow rests go, but they last forever and $8.00 is nothing compared to the cost of the rests used on compounds.

My second choice is the Bear Weatherrest...

I used to use 2 types of Flippers. I had one bow that was tapped for a Berger Button and the setup worked well. I may have 1 or 2 Flippers laying around the shop here...if your RH, your welcome to have one and try it out.

i would try shooting off the shelf first, get a stickon rest material or some adhesive velcro and go at it

I have used the simple Hoyt Pro Flex Rest for forty years or more.  Sticks on, is durable and is super accurate.  Do a google for them.  They are about $2.50 each.

I use a Bear Weather rest and shoot vanes with my A&H ACS CX, I also have my wifes Zipper setup the same, but with pink vanes. Great arrow flite, I would like to try the T-300 and see how it compares to the Bear. Best of luck, give it all a try thats what makes it fun .
