Wow, just strung up a new takedown recurve (maker to remain nameless), drew it back and POW, the lower limb let go midway up. My fingers went into my right eye and I was really surprised. Anyone else have that happen to them? I'm sure the maker will make things right, but what a shock.
I bought the bow about a year and a half ago and never had the time to shoot it. I strung it when it arrived and drew it a few times, then put it away.
Yep, had the top limb break right at the fadeout once. Was at full draw and blam, back of nock poked a hole in my cheek. Scared the crap out of me thats for sure.
Is it a well know brand in bows Dan?
Yep you should always shoot the bow a bunch after you get it. Sometimes the shipping company will kink the box and damage the bow. It doesn't alway look that way but it can and does happen. I had two damaged earlier this year.

Was it stored in some hot place?
scares me!!! one of the biggest reasons I don't sell the bows I make.
had 2 blow up on me in the last 2 weeks.i'm fresh out of bows now,but when i get a new one,i'll be thinking about that when i draw.
I had a new high end bow blow the upper limb-Bang!
Fat lip! Split lenghtways and across-made the sign of a cross too! Bowyer replaced both limbs pretty quick.
Deal with people you trust-stuff happens out there!!
The bow was stored in the house in it's bow sock the entire time and yes, it's one of the top makers. Like I said, I'm sure they'll make good, but I've been shooting bows for 30 years and have owned 12-15 take downs from various makers, 6-8 different Bear recurves along with another dozen longbows and have never had that happen before.
I recently had a longbow top limb come apart on the belly side about 1/3 of the limb separated down to the shelf where it tore loose a chunk of the riser. No injury but surprising since I had shot the bow a fair amount over several years with no indication. Looks like the glue joint let go between the glass and core. Any idea if the glue failed or the core wood separated on yours?

Had longbow limb almost blow completly in half at full draw.black eye and cut on forehead.Had another bow blow cempletly in half into 2 pieces right in the middle of riser at full draw.Once again the Same result.Laceration above the eye. Both newer bows. You never know. Its quite a shock when it happens.Believe me!
Dan,
Had about 3 dozen arrows thru a brand new high end recurve when the lower limb totally delaminated as I was drawing back. No injuries other than mental because those limbs were shooters! Maker said send them back and I got a new set. But now I hesitate to have that kind of wood (bacote over bamboo) for any of my bows and I've seen some absolutely stunning bacote recently.
Terry,
My bow was a high end t/d recurve and the lower limb delaminated about halfway up. The core split in half. The limb was red elm and I don't know what the core material is.
I have been shooting/hunting for 30 year and have never had it happen until now, 2 high line bows blew in the last 30 days, I was not hurt and I am thankful for that, but wow does it hurt.
just yesterday my damon howatt died. the bottom limb blew apart from the riser, leaving me standing there wondering what happened. now i'm without a bow. depressing!
I have a question: both of mine where lower limbs, it looks like most of the ones talked about here are also lower limbs, is this a pattern?
Is there an extra loud on the lower limb that would cause it to blow?
maybe there is on a zero tiller bow, especially with 3 fingers under. don't know just a thought.
I had a riser break right at the web of the grip while at full draw. I was about 20 feet up at the time. The bow was about a year old from a well known bowyer. Wish it had been on film. They bowyer did make me a new one.
never had a bow break, but my string snapped once and whipped the arrow around so it almost went into my head. Talk about being scared.
