I would like opinions on the 52" or 54" Classic Hunter compared to the longer Shrew models.Stability.I like 60" bows but do most of my whitetail hunting out of pop-up tent blinds. And thought the shorter bow will give me more clearance in the blind.I talked to Gregg Coffey a few days ago and my bow will be built sometime in July,I'm Just undecided on what Model and length to get. Thanks for all the advice.
Well Dave Have I got the news for you. I just got back from Comptons an hour ago and I shot ALL the so called top bows there. Seond place was a tie. Black Widows PSR in 54in and Bob Morrisons foam filled limb in 54in. First place was a blow out for me and it was the 54in Shrew Classic. I have a 56in Super Shrew, but the Shrew Classic has a completly diffrent to me. Talk about sweet. The draw feels like a lot less weight than my other bows but is about 3 #"s more. The bow is rock solid when you release the arrow and very stable. Other short bows I have shot were wanted to rock left or right in my wrist. This bow points right where your looking with no wobble. It is the perfect bow. My friend shot it also and pulls about 29in. He thought the exact same things I did. I did not shoot the 52in model because it was love at first sight. The perfect hunting tool. Comparing prices on new bows the Classic Hunter is a steal of a deal. By the way Greg had a maple burl wood that was beautiful. After talking to Ron he showed me the Classic limbs were a diffrent than the Super Shrew limbs. Can't say enough good about it, so I brought it home. My wife even said buy it. LOL
Yep, everything that Dan said! :D
Awesome, awesome bows.
Like Dan said, you can't go wrong with the Classic Hunter!!
I was comfortable with a 52" Classic Hunter at 29.5" draw length. I would go with either one.
Can you get the clasic hunter with carbon limbs?
Wow. Sorry to butt in but thanks for the insight. I am sure glad I ordered a classic hunter and at 54" to boot. The wait is killing me!
Yes you can get a Classic Hunter with carbon limbs. Those bows smoke!! I was glad the only Carbon they had there was a Lefty!!
I've had a Classic Hunter on order since December--I'll have to add the carbon limbs.
Thanks for the info.
Tim, There was one there that was drop dead beautiful. Was that one yours?? Wish I couls have shot a lefty. Got to love those Shrews.
Dan, yeah my new 58" Scout was there and my wifes 52" Classic Hunter was there as well. I am really happy with the way my Scout turned out!!
OK, what can you tell me about carbon limbs? How are they better? I wonder if it's too late to change my order...
I happily second Ronp -- "The wait is killing me!" :jumper: But at least I'm in line! Dave
Thanks for the replies everyone.
I did not get to shoot a carbon Shrew. To me every carbon limb bow I have shot has a twang sound to it. I know they have been putting it in Olympic bows for years but I just prefer good ol wood. Its just a personal prefrence for me. I just came in from shooting my Classic Shrew and would not change a thing in it myself. What a quality bow.Come on Oct.1
I cant take it I NEED SOME PICS!!!!!!!!! please lol
The Classic Hunter shoots better then any bow I have ever owned. It's every bit as good as what has been mentioned and then some. You can't believe it until you shoot one for yourself.
Love mine (56" Classic Hunter)
Osage/Phenolic - 59#@32" (yes, 32") The first 56" was a custom for me!!!!!!

Gregg builds a wonderful bow!!!!!
BobW I think were going to have to rename you BIG Bob (lol) , 32 in. is a long draw length .
Mike
Any more pics of Shrew Classics out there?
Here's a 52" Shrew Classic Hunter that I shot a turkey with last year.

anyone got an unstrung pic? I gotta see those limbs :bigsmyl:
I am going to throw monkey wrench in here, what about the,
Super Shrew Scout, ( Lil Favorite ) it's a recurve how does it compare to the classic shrew Hunter ? Is there a comparison, I shoot recurve, I just talked to Ron, but I forgot to ask him about it, we just talked about the classic shrew Hunter. Anybody have any info
Thanks
Carl
Beautiful bows,,,have a SS Gold on order for my boys graduation gift.
CS
Carl, the Lil' Favorite recurve is also an awesome bow. I think the difference between the two is totally a personal preference. As far as how they shoot they both have a great feel and both are very stable. I have never compared for speed but both are quiet and cast a great arrow.
Here is a pic of my bow rack. The 2 bottom bows are both unstrung Lil' Favorites, the next one up that is strung is my wife 52" Classic Hunter, the unstrung bow behind hers is an unstrung 54" Classic Hunter:

Here are a few more from deer camp this past fall. The Osage bow is my Classic Hunter, the gray bow is my Lil' Favorite, and the 3rd bow with the bow quiver is my Samurai longbow:

somehow I knew Tim would have a picture handy. :knothead: ... I bet he keeps them in his walet like family pictures.. ...
Thanks Tim,
Well I think so, you may be given me trouble, today Bob was trying to nail one down in his inventory. I would been in trouble if he had one on hand, I was looking for one around 45# to 48# @ 29", I had just heard so much about these things, I thought I would give one a try. But I hate to order one custom, and not like it, so I was looking around for a used one, or someone that was looking to trade.
Thanks again for the info, that's a great heard of bow you have there. And you're probably pretty proud that your wife and you can shoot together,
Cool
Carl
Man Bob every where I look your busting my chops today!! :( I can't help it that you have gorrila arms and have to order all yours custom made!! :bigsmyl:  :archer:
