Title: Anyone hear of these arrows?? (PICS)
Post by: frassettor on June 22, 2008, 07:09:00 PM
I got these arrows a while ago from my father-in law, and was wondering if someone could tell me a little about them, or how old these are, and what kinds of BH are on these. It says Shakesspeare " Rifled Shaft" with " spiral Markings" on them. They are spined 55#

Shakespeare fiberglass shafts had a spiral surface, the same as their fishing rods, altho I can't see it in the pics.  I would guess early to mid 60's.  The broadheads are Arrowmate 4's.

As Fletcher says, the shafts are spiral, this happened when a strip of fiber glass was wound on a mandral, the ridges were formed by over lap of the glass cloth. They were essentially short pieces of fishing rods made into arrows.

Frassetor,  those broadheads are from Ben Pearson and were some of the last broadheads they made.  Nylon ferrel and all!  I actually killed two deer with those and so can attest that they work.  That tip can curl is the only problem with them and they are no good for shooting small game.  Enjoy them for the great piece of archery history that they are.

We shot those shafts. They were sold as some kink of special factory deal. As I recall they were only about $30-$35 dz. That was a super good price at the time. I think it was in the late 60s or early 70s. There were a fairly good shaft.

Raminshooter:
Correction here, the Arrowmate broadhead was sold by Ben Pearson and alot of others, but not made by them. The were made in Milwaukee, WI from the early 60's to the mid 70's.
