Title: how does the tiller on this look?
Post by: portugeejn on June 20, 2008, 11:19:00 PM
This is my first bow that I started in a class taught by John Strunk (but didn't finish in the two days).  Finally filed some string nocks and strung it up.  It didn't break-so far so good-one person's bow shattered and cut open his scalp.  I didn't pull it to full draw (26" for me).  Still paranoid.

Anyway, so what do you think should be next?  Any opinions about tiller, etc. from those who have experience will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Ron

It's looking pretty darn good from what I can tell! It would be easier to see if you took a pic with a better side profile. This pic is at a slight angle.

Tiller looks great from that view. I agree with Black Wolf on the pic- also, one of the side profile unstrung, and braced.  Looks like you had a few spots with a little bit of reflex that you handled well, but we need to see it unstrung. That's a pretty stick.

Bottom limb looks a bit stiffer to me.  However it could be due to the unevenness of the top limb giving an optical illusion.  Mor e pics. please.

Agree with what's been said.

From this angle, looks like bottom limb may be stiffer near the riser or has a faster tip.

But, bottom limb may only appear this way due to not drawing it all the way to normal anchor. In the pic, your elbow is high and you dont have a full three finger grip on string. Full pressure of that third finger may move more to the bottom limb.

It sure does look sweet though. Arent you going nuts wanting to shoot it??? As they say, "Patience is a virtue"... but then who are "they" to talk!!! Gitterdone~n~shoot'er!!!

OK, better pictures!  Thank you all for your input.

The top limb does have 1/4" positive tiller (I think that is what it is called).  There is 1/4" more space between string and bow on the top limb.  The 4" handle is set with 1" above and 3" below the center, so the upper limb is 1" longer.

I would stay away from the tips, it is becoming a bit whip ended.  I would take off a bit more from near the fade area.  Good luck!
