Looks like we are getting another English Springer the end of August. This one will be a male. Any ideas on a name with a archery/bowhunting twist?
We are thinking maybe "Bow".
Bullseye was the name of the 3rivers archery dog....
other than that, all I can come up with is Star Wars names.... so this'll be interesting for me to watch.
Mike
Fletch
Bear, like Fred
I'm sure some of the folks here will have a lot of better ones, but these are the two that popped up in what passes for my mind, lol.
Kevin
Arrow. (Obleo's dog).
I've got a Golden named Wensel...Figured I'd better ask before I did and Gene said oh sure, we had a pig named after us once! LOL He asked whether he would be named after him or Berry, I said he had papers so had good "Gene's" and he was a boy so he's got "Berry's".....Shouldn't have named him after those two, he licks himself a lot! :)
My close second choice was "Snuffer"....O.L.
Here's a couple
Bracer
Stringer
Fletch
Tab
:bigsmyl:
My chocolate lab female is named 'Sage...short for Osage!
"Howie" (Howard as in Howard Hill)
"Fred" (Fred Bear)
or pick your favorite hunter's name.
Tracker,Camo,...I not gonna strain my brain anymore until you tell us what the wining entry gets. :)
"Tiller"
JIM
Crecy, Poitiers, Agincourt
I had one named Fletch once upon a time.
"Saxton"
We just got a yellow lab. I wanted 'Muzzy', but lost out to the wife and kids.
Tim Flood, has dog named " Archer"
Bow...regard? :knothead:
Flint?
Ishi?
I did the same review last year, Archery, Hunting names ect.
Tried bow, but how do you train a dog with a name the sounds like no.
Set my daughter on the case.
She picked CHASE, after all it's all about the chase
How About "Magnus"?
Yelloweye, I never even thought of that.
Keep them coming guys. You have some great ideas!
snuffer, flint, Hick "hickory"
calamus, telum = arrow in latin
venator = hunter in latin
just some ideas
'Nock'
"PANDY" my wife liked the name because it was cute i liked it because it was actually "P and Y" like "Pope and Young"...hahaha...she never caught on...
heartshoth
Quiver..like they do on point.
Jasper ~pretty arrowpoint
Early Riser ~a handle for the hunter in all of us
Cain ~could lead to some good housetraining jokes!
Is he gonna be black and white or brown and white?
Killdeer :)
.
How do they get so rotten? :)
Hi BobCo,
How about "Bodark"(osage),"Ace","Toxie" (might be too close to toxic!), "delta"(little delta), "ocala", "sierra"(shakesphere bows), "Tammi" (Tamerlane). Gotta be hundreds!!
Good lookin pup(s)!!
Harry.
how about, comanche
How about "Archer"?
Bear, after fred bear
I came up with some good ones after I had already named my two.
I particularly like Jet, like the Jack Howard gamemaster Jet.
"Bow" of course
"Griffin", "Diablo", "Voodoo", "Mojo", "Schaf", "Mo" (morrison),
"Kodiak", "Magnum","Grizz","Polar", "Montana" or any other Bear bow name.
Good luck, and a bit of advice. They say to name them with "one or two syllable names" it make for easier training and easier for the dogs to recognize. Good luck. Tim
Tracker
Trad
Schafe
Scout
"Bow Hush" ,"Bo Hush", or "Bow String" or "Nock Point"
MUZZEE! lol
Busted!
Robinhood.
"Rosebud"
Whoops wrong forum. :)
Longbow or Recurve, Flemish.
How about TRAD
or
Billet
Brace
Crester
Flu
Knapper
Spine
Stack
About five years ago, I heard of this great breeder of fine hunting dogs, so I paid my deposit and ordered one. I waited and waited, but never got the dog.
I even had a name picked out..."O.L." :bigsmyl:
I got a beagle pup and named her Feather. Not really because of archery, but because my son killed his first turkey the same day I picked her up. I wanted the name to reflect that memorable day, and I think it fits.
Mike
I had a GREAT chocolate lab I named after critter getter bow
THE KRITTER GETTER
KRITTER for short
Pick a snappy name that it will not mistake with others.
DEATHMASTER
Fletcher
Archer
Paradox
Orford
Sitka
Binga (bubinga)
Bocote
You can use these names for KIDS too!!!!!!!!
Limb Bolt
Full Draw
If you're a knapper I've always thought "Chert" would be a good name for a dog as would "Flint" or "Jasper".
Also I've considered the name "Bow" as I have known many a hound named "Beau"
If it is a female you could go with "Ivara" feminine of "Ivar" which is "Archer" in the language of the Vikings. Or "Yvette" which is old French for "little bow"
"Broadhead"! or "Fletch"! or "Point"!
Scratch "Fletch" (sounds like fetch and that would be confusing to the dog.)
Also Springers aren't a pointing breed so scratch "Point"
"scratch Point" ha ha I get it :)
Woodsman196 had the same idea as me...."Saxton" is my 12year old yellow lab.
We named our new Taco Bell dog(can`t spell Chiuaua) Muzzy Phantom, because he was fast and sharp, right out of the box.
I have a twelve year old chocolate lab named Scout. He has been going downhill pretty quickly; I am afraid he is going to be taking a one-way trip to the vet any day now.
"Woody" as in Gene Wensel's great deer
as in Wood arrows
as in the Wensel Woodsman
or just the Woods that we love so much
Best of luck with the pup.
Bob
fred
Cedar
I had a lab named Saxton; my next dog will most likely be named Art.
I just got a 3 Rivers catalog and they had a little piece about their Mascot named Bulls-eye that just passed away. Bulls-eye was a fine dog, 3 Rivers a fine company. In memory of Bulls-eye......everyone wants a Bulls-eye,right?
Blackhawk,
Now that was funny. lol
Ishi of course
I like fletch or venture
Rover
We have a cat named 'Bo' and it is oficially spelled 'Bow'-kids said it was OK.
If we were to get a dog I would vote for 'Orion'.
I've had " Snuffer" for 12 years now, great dog mean head!!!
Had a beagle named quiver.
Had another named shadow
We are considering Saxton, Bear, Fletch, Bow and Wesley right now (not in any order).
Any others?
Recurve
As already mentioned my dog is named Archer, two syllables I've read is best and word that end in a hard sound not like Mandy, think about calling your dog back from some where and really yelling its name, good luck
Have not read all the responses but my next lab will be named "Bow". :bigsmyl:
Flu Flu :biglaugh:
TurdBucket,as in I put my raffle tickets at Compton's in the turdbucket from the left and won a prize!
I like "Bracer."
i have a springer liver and white named bee she is awesome. you have yourself a real nice dog for sure. as for a name how about swift  .wolfman
Ishi or Yahi
I would call the dog Fletcher.
Bob, how about Kodiak Magnum or Kodiak for short!! I believe your son might like that name Doesn't he shoot a KM???
I know it won't work for a male, but I specifically ordered a female beagle just so I could call her Artemis, Missy for short. She arrives in 5 weeks, and the blood tracking training will begin!
I have also onsidered for a male: Saxon, Artty, Howard, and Schaf.
my lab is named "makensey" like the targets. My oldest chessie is named "archer" (duh). And my younger chessie is named "bow" spelled beau.
Easton
Blunt
Buck
Shaft
If he's going to be short & squirrly, I'd call him Bowdoc :)
I named my dog osage
I had a wonderful springer and named her Sinbad,
because she loved the water so much.
They say that it is best to keep the nickname short and sweet and not make it ryhme with any command.
I'd say you have had some great suggestions.
So I recommend Flush.
If female, I woulda suggested Hush!!!!!!!!!!
:saywhat:
Stringer...the Springer :)
Killie, as usual you can say so much with so little! You da bomb.
how about using two of the ones you narrowed it down to......... "Bow-Bear"
.
My kids called their two cats Boone and Crockett so the archery version would be POPE.
"Stick"
So you can say "Stick fetch" then throw a ball and confuse your mate's.
If it was a Poodle I'd say Flu-Flu. But since it's an English Springer I'd have to go with Sherwood.
Brack, Habu, Vital, Judo
Someone may have posted this already....what about Woody?
Quiver
Hunter
Toxey (For toxophilite)
I saw the thread and hoped you weren't going to mention the type of dog.... I was going to suggest a teacup chihuahua named "Brace Height" - so you could tell folks it's what you use to setup your bow :)
Spot ..... of course. As in: 'pick a spot'
I like Ranger.
Our Springer's name is Slick...not archery related, but get a lot of smiles when people here his name.....
Goshe,(pronounced go-shay) Apache for "dog"!
Well, we got the pup Saturday. Looks like we went with joe-vt's idea and named the puppy:
"BowBear".
We were also thinking of BearBow, or BareBow, but BowBear just seemed to sound better.
Below is a pic of BowBear!
Special THANKS to everyone who participated!
