Title: Another Carbon question!
Post by: LURP DOG on June 18, 2008, 09:06:00 AM
I received my new bow yesterday,at least to me,  a Whisperstik Voodoo, and want to know a good starting point for carbons.
It's 45#@28" and my draw is 29". I was going to use aluminum but no one in my area has any near the size I need but they do carry GoldTip carbons/feather fletched in 35/55 & 55/75.  The dealer things that I should go with the 35/55. Does this sound about right?
I know he only has standard inserts so can I get it set up with heavier points or broadheads using the standard inserts? If so, what can I use in regards to the amount of weight I should use to start out with?

Lurp Dog,
I would go for the 35/55's. I shoot the Beman ICS Hunters in 500's out of a 50lb 'curve. With a 150 gr.head and 3grain weight tubes.
These spine very close to the 35/55.

I'm pretty new to carbons myself, but in my 56" 58@28 Mojostik, I'm drawing 26.5" and getting 53#. I shoot 29" Cabela's Stalker Extreme 55/70's, .400 deflection, with 250gr tips and regular inserts. I think the 35/55 would be easier to tune in to your Voodoostik, but also try the 55/75 if possible. Have you checked with Dominion Outdoors in Stuarts Draft?

I'll send ya a PM with a friend's phone #. He's over in Waynesboro and probably can help you get it tuned in.

Kevin,

Dominion Outdoors is who has the arrows and they have moved to Fishersville in a HUGE new building.
The bad thing is they are PRO compound as are most in my area so I may have problems getting the heavier tips. I may have to order a point kit from 3rivers and see what will work the best!
