Recently broke the tip on this old Herters, 1961 I believe. It shot really well. I didn't pay a whole lot for it $40 or so. Any suggestions?

looks pretty bad. Try posting this over at the history/collecting forum and you might get a better answer.

Thanks,
Wasn't sure where to post this question . I'll give that a try. Thanks for the info on brace height on Herters bows on another thread. I have a few that I lucked into. Great shooters and look good to.

Bowdoc is hunting right now, right? Maybe Droptine will see this.

Not really sure what happened. I'd had it for a while and had shot quite a bit with it. Great shooter. Actually hit where I pointed it, most of the time! One afternoon fired an arrow and it sounded and felt different and a millisecond later the string slapped me in the face. I thought that the bow had exploded, as I've read that this can happen. I was lucky enough to only have a pretty good welt on my cheek.
Any ideas? I thought I had looked it over pretty good for cracks and delams, apparently missed something. Time for new glasses?
 :saywhat:

Were you shooting a dacron string?

I shoot 3rivers dacron strings. I thought dacron was safe?

you can always shorten it the same from each end and redo the nocks but it will be heavy, it will look like a reflex deflex then you can take some width from the limbs to lighten the load.
But the auction site is full of bows similar to that!!
