Just got into traditional bowhunting.. What size wood arrows should I be using with a 35# longbow at 27" draw.. Also, can anyone briefly outline the steps in making arrows? I know the basics but confused on the painting process.. Is a 35# longbow suitable for hunting whitetail?
Your States Reg's will tell you if 35# is enuff... To start out with I wouldn't us 35#..
what kind of bow?
what is weight at full draw?
long bow or recurved?
what point weight?
Somebody built the bow and gave it to me several years back.. Its a 62" longbow.. 35# at full draw with 125 grain points.. Sorry if I don't sound like I know what i'm talking about.. Still new to all this
Chad,

This is the order in which I "work" my wood shafts.
Straighten (they don't need to be perfect like a carbon shaft) if the nock is on correctly they WILL fly right.
Stain- any stain you like, make sure it will work with your glues.
Seal- I use two coats of Super Coat
check for straight again.
crown dip- I like yellow. 8" to 10" it's all personal preference.
Crest the shaft- again, colors and how many are up to you.
Fletch with good feather fletches.
If you get stuck, just post or PM someone. Building a quality wood arrow is not rocket science, doing it well is practice and good workmanship.

My son took several Mississippi whitetails with a 33 pound recurve pulled at 24". With a razor sharp two blade head it doesn't take much if you keep your shots short.
