I shot yesterday at Theo's (Journeyman) house with Harl, we didn't last to long due to the sweltering heat 90°+. I shot again tonight in my backyard. I wanted to try my arrows for Moose and Bear out of my new Toelke Whip 56 @ 26, 705g's Carbon Express Heritage 150's with 5g per inch weight tubes. Mixed in with the feild points are two Zwickey No mercy left bevel with 125g steel adaptors. Really happy with how they perform at hunting distances.
I practice from my deck on an 8 foot ladder, that puts my feet at my treestand height of 11 feet. The longest shot in the backyard is around 20 yards with this 3D deer set at 16 yards.

The veiw from 11" up and 16 yards out:

Looks like 5 dead deer to me ;)

nice
Good shooting, I don't see many holes in the fence. YOU are a braver guy than me.
'Ontario' - Do you have any regulations in your country about shooting in your back yard? We had a guy killed in Australia a couple of yrs ago at Christmas. Some young guy got a bow for Xmas and was out the back practicing - the arrow missed the target went through the fence and killed a man having a barbeque.
I am certainly not casting any aspersions toward you. I shoot in my back yard as well - and have even put one through the fence. Just wondering how you get on with neighbours and the like?

Nice pond. My neighboors don't care if I shoot, but would hate to have a mistake happen.
Good shooting!
Great shooting  Were your broadheads on?
I shoot in the backyard. Not supposed to. City regulations.
I have a 6' 6" wooden fence. I have a target right up against it. It has a roof that will prevent a richeot from going over.
I have 2 3/4" pieces of plywood sandwiched together as a back stop.
I never shoot when the neighbors are in their back yard.
When I shoot at a 3D target I put it right up against the bale under the roof. I will not place it farther out in the middle of the yard because I am afraid of a glance off the top of the target's back.
The only real fear I have of shooting back there is the possiblity of a nock breaking.
nice shooting, nice set-up!
thats a great set up you have both the practice areaand the arrows. I use almost the same set up with out the wieght tubes and got super penetration on last years moose hunt in Alberta. Good luck!
Give a lot of thought to those 3D targets! Arrows can and will ricochet off the curved surfaces and go all over the place. For a backyard situation, a bag, preferably hung inside a little doghouse type structure is much safer. In a bigger yard, you c;an get away with large backstops, but, at least IMHO, not 3D's unless you're out in the country.
For a look at how I did the backstopping, see:

My neighbors dont seem to mind.

Now that's my kinda back yard...wish I was your neighbor. Tge
My neighbor doesn't mind either if he did I would be a world champion distance shooter :archer: Excellent homestead Jack...I love Wyoming.

Yours looks good as well. You have what my wife would love to have TREES.
I would need one of those composite Turkish flight bows to hit my neighbors. WY is great antelope in the backyard, mullies and elk 3 miles to the west, whitetail on the creek one mile to the south. It is draw only in this area because I am about half way between Cheyenne and Laramie on the boarder of the Medicine Bow National Forest.
I have found that a backstop like this really helps to "up ones concentration" :D I am proud to say I have only lost 2 arrows in the past year ;)

There's about a 15 foot drop right behind the target into the river bottoms.
Behind my 6 foot fence at the back is 3000 acres of bush!!,, My only rule is that if the neighbours are out I don't shoot at all.
Public safety is always an issue and it just takes one bad event however trivial and a grumpy neighbour and that's it for your practice sessions. We live in one crazy, gun-mad place, no discipline and unlicenced (therefore untrained) idiots. So one day a while back there was this private hospital... too many feral pigeons crapping everywhere. It is a hospital hey? Public health and all. The Security firm says we have some friends...
Ok They really, really were the good guys...
trouble is they arrived at dawn in full camo with 'high tech 'rifles'--yeah they were rifled, .177 gas powered competition airguns. Those things are super-accurate and are super quiet, perfect for pest control, as the pigeons discovered. 18 shots and 18 down and then the cops arrive. The men were arrested, I mean handcuffed and charged with ATTEMPTED MURDER, and for discharging a firearm in city limits. Does anyone remember "you can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant" Here's your cue Killy! Comment was that it was 'dangerous to the birds in the area!' No sh*t especially the ones sitting up against concrete walls under the eves! I kid you not. Guess we should be nicer them feral pigeons. Not as if the cops have anything else to do...what with all those mad bank robbers who shoot back. Imagine that?
So yes, I also shoot with caution and invite my neighbours over to shoot too if they want to. Targets are up against a high wall, arrow eater that is! They understand what I am about and we have no problem although I should look out for the 'murder rap'.

Not sure on my city regulations... noones showed up to tell me anything yet ... been doing it this way for three years...
I shoot in the front yard!!! :scared: I have the target in the garage with some plywood behind it to protect the wall in case of any issues. I slide a 3x6 sheet of mdf in front of the dooe to the house so no one could mistakenly come out while I am shooting... Not perfect, but I think the neighbors don't really seem to mind.
Have had at least 6 people approach me to and ask if I would hunt the deer out of the "greenspace" behind their houses :saywhat: ... Unfortunately the HOA rules forbid the practice, but those who live along the golf course really are tired of the pesky rodents...
I wish this housing market would settle down so I could escape back out to the country...
