Been wanting to do a pig hunt and have found a nice opportunity. Would like to hear from experienced pig hunters about equipment you use, shot placement, all the good stuff a first time pig hunter needs to know. I'm currently shooting 560gr arrow with either 2 blade Magnus or Abowyer BH. Oh, there won't be any dogs.
Hug the shoulder on a broadside shot. Just lookin' at your list of bows, I'd recommend getting some stiff carbon arrows and front-loading them, maybe aiming for 600 to 650 grains, and use 2-blade broadheads.
Thus far, I've only taken pigs with a 78lb @ 29" Black Widow longbow, and carbon arrows of either 704 grains or 880 grains. I've used Magnus, STOS and Tusker 2-bladers, as well as Wensel Woodsman 3-bladers.
Happy hunting!
I've used my regular whitetail set up, with a heavy arrow. Crazy sharp cut on contact broadhead placed correctly will get it done everytime.
Search the forums for hogs or get ahold of Terry.
He chases them all the time down there. Hog hunting is awesome fun; but putting up with the heat and bugs does get old. LOL Thats why I don't want to go south except in Jan or Feb...

Jerry, is this pig hunt a can hunt or free roam?
all i can say is what ben said hug the shoulder tight! you shoot them like you do a deer you'll get a high chance of a gut shot. i myself use a 52# hoyt gamemaster with 512gr arrows and 2 blade steel force or magnus I...they work great.
Low and forward.

Take a look at that first picture. Despite the large hole dissected, the "goods" are right behind the shoulder and way low. Shoot one like a deer and you'll hit meat and the pig won't stop. LOW AND FORWARD.
Hope this helps.

Your deer bow should do just fine. As with any new game, study the anatomy well beforehand
The King might be able to help you

Thanks for the input and the anatomy photos. Yeah King, I lived in San Diego for 6 years and never had a chance to hunt those beasts you been getting. I'm feeling confident, just wanted some other opinions and facts. Thanks again.
Hey Jerry, you gonna make Denton Hill?
