Title: Full draw question?
Post by: Mohillbilly on June 08, 2008, 12:56:00 PM
When I am at full draw I have noticed that it appears as if my arrow has a gentle bend to it.  My arrows are straight.  I believe that I am maybe putting pressure on the nock as I draw and causing the bend.  Any experience or advice on this.  It seems that my arrow tuning experiences have always been frustrating and I wonder if this could be part of the problem.
Thanks,
Bret

Try to get ahold of a back copy of Traditional Bowhunter (within the last year).  G Fred goes through the proper hand/wrist in your draw.  I would recommend his instinctive shooting book(s) and/or his video.  Excellent form information there.  Keep in mind, your wrist should essentially be "dead/free floating. The fingers are a static "hook" - described as picking up a paint can.  Need to get that down.  Even alignment of the hand along the face may be an issue.  Check this stuff out - lots of good info on them.

Do you wear glasses? The reason I ask is I have a cheap pair of glasses and when wearing them and look at a something strait (like an arrow) at the right angle, it appears to be bent. It has something to do with the way the lenses are ground. This dose not happen with my contact lenses. I can't believe you are torquing the bow or the string enough to bend the arrow, unless you are shooting a super-light spined arrow.

It is possible to put enough pressure or torque to flex the arrow. This would probably give you some flight problems that would look like nock high. I think that is part of the reason some people have problems eliminating nock high flight when tuning their bow.

My arrows look the same way when i glance down at them. It may just be an opticle illusion. They still shoot good. I duno...

I shoot three under and when I look down at my arrow it look bent.  There is no way that I am putting pressure on the nock so I would go with optical illusion.

optical illusion is what is going on..... if I look at the arrow more when shooting I see the samething....
