Title: "Click" when I draw
Post by: rock_hunter on June 06, 2008, 09:47:00 PM
I'm shooting a Samick Leopard takedown, and sometimes when I draw there is a faint "click" where the limbs mount to the riser.  Would it help to put some moleskin between the limbs and riser?  It's not the limbs or riser, I looked them over carefully and there are no cracks, etc.

I've had that before on TD's, and yes, a thin layer of moleskin, rubber, or such will quiet it.

Also check to see if it may be the bottom string nock popping as you pull back.  I usually use a flemish twist string, got a wild hair and made up a endless to try.  It was almost like a clicker, right before full draw the bow would click, finally narrowed it down.  Needless to say, that string is hanging on the wall, the bow tips just didn't like it.  My bow is a 3 piece takedown longbow.  The above suggestions may have hit it on the head, if not, look at the string nocks.

I put a thin layer of synthetic grease on the limb pads to cure this. It is a clear silicone that comes in a small tube. Works great.

It seems like the wax cured it, no sound anymore.  Thanks for the advice!

If the noise is coming from the limb mounts, any of the remedies mentioned will take care of it.

Other than the click, how do you like the bow?

Moving parts need lube. I use vaseline on the pins and pads and bolts.

Hey guys, chap stick or Burt's bee's wax will work in a pinch. Lip balm is almost a must to have in ones pocket in this dry country.

I tried the silicone grease on mine just last week and it got worse. I will try string wax.

String wax will work until it gets cold.  Then the wax itself will make a cracking sound.  Not so much on the draw, but when stringing the bow and perhaps the first draw after stringing.

I tried string wax last night and it cured the creaking sound.

Orion is right. I had a bow that would pop only when the temps dropped below 20 degrees. Silicon grease was the only cure. I may have to use it this winter.
