Title: Safety Harness Information
Post by: Gator1 on June 05, 2008, 05:06:00 PM
I'm already starting to think about Deer Hunting, and am in need of a full body restraint.

One criteria, "I need a biggun" for 300 lbs of Trad Hunter, I would like some feedback on pros and cons of the different models.

The one I got w/my summit climber, actually has on the tag an "out of service" date...

Glad I checked.

Seat-of-the-Pants (SOP) works for me.  Thankfully I've never had to test it, but the large (or x-large?) size will fit us full-figured guys.  You can get a SOP vest that makes it even easier to put on, but with a little practice you won't need that.

Hunters Safety System..a little pricey but well worth what it cost, the pro is around 150.00 or so for the size xxl size which is supposed to be good for 250-300lbs fellars, easy to put on & the vest part of it is camo mesh so it won't burn ya up in warmer weather....I've still got my summit & a couple of Lone wolfs as a back-up just in case.....

Not sure who sells them--probably do a web search and find several dealers.  Mine came with my Summit Goliath tree stand.

Seat of the Pants sold by Summit Treestands.
I own several and they work!
Hunter Saftey Systems will be my next choice.  Just want to try 'em out this season.

Gator, I have used the Seat o Pants for a long time . They are easy to put on, even in the dark. The Hunter Safety System has fans here but they complain about the vest being hot( this is Florida!)

On another note: How does someone in Mn get the handle Gator1? I hope it's not a reference to that other school in Gainesville.

I recently used my Hunter Safety System vest on a bear hunt and it was really comfortable and easy to put on.  I noticed Bass Pro has a new one that only has the suspender strap (I think it was a Hunter Safety System vest) and looked very comfortable, also.  Living in SE Texas, we don't usually have cool weather until mid October, so a full vest will most likely be H O T !!!  We will see.

Good luck on your search.  You can't be too safe these days.

At work,I wear full-body restraints all the time. Last year I tried the HSS vests for hunting. I think it's comfortable, and very "user friendly". Bought one for my son too. I bought the vented one, lighter and cooler.
