I've got the python model and it use's the cable system.I've climbed a hickory tree with it without it slipping LOL hickory is not the best choice for climbing

In any event the summit stands are comphy, safe and well built

  Ive have used several and havent had any complaints. There are some lighter stands out there and some in my opinion more suitable for a bow hunter but Summit has treated me well.

Lone Wolf's are one of the best but more expensive. I have the hand climber and sometimes wish I got the sit and climb. The hand climber offers the best shot clearance IMO YMMV.

I have a Summit Viper.  I like it.  It fits together nicely to hike it on your back and in my opinion, its not that heavy.  The cables grab great and aren't that hard to use.  The best part in my opinion is the ability to adjust the seat so you can lean/sit on it and pop right up when you want to shoot.  If you leave the seat in the regular position, its darn comfortable.  When I was looking for a treestand, everyone I knew told me to get a Viper.  I don't think you will regret it.

I've got an "older" Viper and the Broadhead Backpacker.  Excellent stands for the money, and quite comfortable.  Generous platforms, great seats.
