I'm just curious about what length bows people are shooting at what draw length. I am currently shooting a 64" lg recurve at 29" draw length.
As I understand it, the longer the draw length, the longer the bow. I'm sure that's just a "general" starting point rule though.
Whatcha shootin'? :)
For my 30" draw I prefer a recurve length of 62". Anything shorter and I can feel it stack. I can get by at 60", but 58" is uncomfortable and 56 is out of the question.
Depends on bow design. I have found that I shoot longer bows better with my 30" draw. It won't be comfortable if it is too short.
I have a 30" draw and my Bob Lee recurve is 64", my Blacktail VL recurve is 66" and my Belcher Longhorn hybrid longbow is 68".
It is all about the bow design. My 32"+ draw is handled by a 68" r/d LB (ChekMate Crusader), a 64" 'curve (ChekMate Hunter II), and, believe it or not, a 56" hybrid long bow (Shrew Classic Hunter).
A longer bow will be friendlier.....
I've shot longbows of 58-68" and recurves from 54-62". My draw length is 27" with longbow and 28" with regular risered recurves. The 54" recurve was a Howatt Hi-speed that I shot very well, but I prefer 58-60" recurves and 64-66" longbows.
I have 29" draw, and I issued a 56 in. " Hunter " from Bob Lee archery.
No pinching, smooth on the draw, and accurate bow. Reasonably priced.
Also Bob Lee archery, has a 56 in., and a 58 in., I don't have experience with the 58", they do talk highly of them, and understand that John McDonald has recurves, they are only $450.
BigRiver, on here, would know about those bows.
Carl
I have 2 bows
shrew 54" 52#@26" ( backside of handle )
red oak 70" 51#@24" (belly side of handle )
I have a 29" pull, shooting two different Java Man bows. One is a 54" recurve and the other is a 58" longbow. No pinch and no stack. I shoot both about equally well.
I only have a 27" draw length, so am VERY comfortable shooting my 68#, 54" Wolverine longbow! :D
I have ape-like arms and a draw length of 31". My longbow is 64" long with a draw wieght of 55#@28". I'm comfortable with it. I've tried recurves and have not found one that suits my long arms, but I'm still looking. I must admit that the only recurves I've looked at were production models on the shelf at the local sporting goods store, though. When I get serious about a recurve, I'll need to branch out some.
I shoot a 54" pmav 54@28,
My longbow that will be coming, its a plx it will be 64" 58@28
Dutchman,
Jeffrey Archery builds a 68" takedown recurve bow. Might be just the ticket for your 31" draw. You would need the #4 limbs and the "C" handle to get the 68" overall length.

60" is my shortest bow...the rest are up to 66"
