Great bows for sure! For a Traditional D style longbow this bow is as fast or faster than hybrids I shot and Quiet! Really likes heavy arrows too.  I can't put mine  down. Just a fun bow to shoot. KYArcher with those specs let me know if you don't like yours! LOL!

Blackhawk Vapor carbonwood 3000 with 250 grains up front cut to 28"s. GoldTip 35/55 Traditionals cut to 27 3/4's with 250 grains up   front I should go heavier up front on those maybe 300. Nope didn't post pictures, Junior is in  France with the new Sony digital. Maybe I'll post some with the oldie.

Forgot to say my Bud brought over some 55/60 28" Tapered cedars with 150grains up front and the bow really liked them too.I thought I would never shoot cedars but after shooting those tapered cedars I might have to order some.

I'm looking at a couple of Vince's bows right now....  How is the handshock, and what is the approx brace height on his bows?

Thanks,
Mike

HA HA handshock!!?? What handshock? None, zip, zero. Brace height is 6 1/2 to 6 3/4 mine is at about 6 3/4.

Had mine for a couple weeks now.  It's 64", 57@28, dark bamboo limbs with a super figured bacote riser/overlays and two red stripes. I can't give enough praise about this bow or about Vince and his customer service. If you're a fan of mild R/D bows, which I am, Vince has nailed everything good about the design.  You guys that have one coming are in for a treat that starts the moment you open the package and only gets sweeter with each shot.  Simply outstanding.

The brace on mine is set at 6 5/8, but I haven't finished fine tuning yet and expect I'll probably end up closer to 6 1/2.  I'm shooting Griz Alaskans with brass inserts and a 260 head cut at 29" for a total weight of around 680gr.

I'll be posting some pics and more about this bow after a hog hunt at the end of the month.

Vince told me 6 1/2 to 6 3/4 on the brace height. And Vince is just great to talk to about his bows ( and Harleys too)would have to agree about the customer service A++++. Reading your thread Molson has got me even more excited.

Mine is gonna be 48@28, 54@30.  It is 66" cocabola riser with the two pinstripe swoop.  Tonkin bamboo cores with red elm for the outer lams.
I have been looking for a d shape bow for a while and think I might have found her.  I will know by Friday.
Vince is one of the nicest bowyers I have dealt with and I have had a few bows.  I sure am looking forward to putting this one through the ringer.

I shot the bow that Bentpole has. The hand grip fit my hand very nicely. I shot this bow pretty well considering I haven't shot a bow in a few weeks. I also liked the looks of the riser wood and the accent stripes. The limb tips were real nice looking too. What I liked the most cosmeticly was the satin non light reflective finish on the bow. I could go on about this bow but you have to either see picts of it or shoot one.

My digital calipers show the limb width as it leaves the riser at between 1.270" and 1.275".  The limbs are trapped from back to belly on all Mohawk longbows.

That take down feature adds about 4 or 5 ounces according to Vince.  Not much but could be enough to make the difference in feel.  That will be my next option if this baby works out.

Rob,  he mailed yours and mine on Monday so we should see em today or tommorrow.

The suspense in killing me, gotta go, later..

The Mohawk TD - a classic longbow for all seasons and reasons.

This is IT.  This is the classic D longbow I'd been searching for years to no avail, 'till now.

I've got three 'Hawks ...

64", 47# @ 28" 1pc (50# @ 29")
62", 49# @ 28" 1pc (52# @ 29")
62", 52# @ 28" 2pc TD (55# @ 29")

I typically prefer shorter longbows (huh?) for hunting and longer limbs for roving and 3D.  However, after lots of testing I perceive no drawing/holding differences between the 64" and 62" 'Hawks at my full 29" draw.  Based on that criteria, I ordered out a 62" 'Hawk TD.  I was not disappointed.

My 62" 1pc weighs 1lb 5ozs, and the new 62" TD weighs 1lb 8ozs.  The handle on both have that same slim, great feel.  Both have double Tonkin cane limb cores and the draw is incredibly smooth - the smoothest of any longbow yet that I've pulled string. I've had a variety of different style 2pc TD systems and the Connexion Hinge was a new one for me - it's too easy to use, very positive locking, very functional - I like it lots!

The TD version performs every bit as well as my other 1pc 'Hawks.  Exceptional "pointability", super stable, plenty of arrow speed and she LOVES heavy shafts.

Many thanx to Vince for this terrific longbow!

I got mine today and it is all that has been said. Flawless worksmanship.  Very quiet, shock free, and much faster than I expected.  The arrows I have are a bit stiff, so need to do some fine tuning.  I think they will be fine with 250 grain heads, but this puts the arrow weight in the 660 range with 350 up front.  That is 12.2 grains per pound.  Hmm may just work.  I'll try to get some pics up this evening.

Oh and Vince is without a doubt at the top of the heap of bowyers I have dealt with.  You can't go wrong with a Mohawk!

HATCHCHASER, congrats!  What are the spex on yer 'Hawk?

'Hawks LOVE heavy arras - I shot 625 grain outta the light 50#er (12.5 gpp) and they flew stable and Fast.  Now I'm looking to build some 700 grain arras with heavy point weight (30% FOC) for the new 55# TD.
Title: Re: Mohawk Longbow on its way! Pix added.
Post by: Molson on June 04, 2008, 06:39:00 PM
Nice Rob!  I like that.  As for heavy arrows and the 'Hawk, those 680 gr Alaskans I've been shooting actually turned out to be 750gr Alaskans. Measured them on my certified scale at work, which I know is accurate, and was a bit surprised to find that much difference.  That puts them up above the 13 gpp range and I'm perfectly happy with the flight I'm getting out of them.

48@28, 54@30" where I draw.  Cocabola riser with two white pinstripes.  Cocabola overlays front and back and on the tips with white and black on the tips.  Two tonkin bamboo lam cores with 2 red elm cores on the outside.  Smooth drawing, fast stable and all the other good things.  This bow has as good of worksmanship as any bow I have had.  Vince is top notch in all regards as well.  I can't get onto Photobucket so I'll get pics asap.  I promise though it is purty!

I got to shoot my new Mohawk yesterday evening and its awsome! Smooth drawing,no handshock, and very quick. She was launching the heaviest arrows I have with authority ( 560gr. cedars ). I just can't quit looking at those bamboo limbs, they are just beautiful! I've had bows with bamboo cores with a veneer over top, but never under clear glass. I really like it!
Well I'm going to try to add pix. Vince does some great work. Thanks Vince.   :wavey:

I shot mine through a chrono the other day.  I only got two shots to register out of about 20.  There was something wrong with the chrono.  The numbers I got were 159 and 160.  The bow is 54@30" with a 660 grain arrow.  I would suspect this to be correct, but I have chronoed every bow I have had and how much it drops at 30 yards tells me this bow is faster than that.  When I get a chance I will take it to the place that I have chronoed my other bows.  Of course 160 fps with a 12.22 grains per pound ai'nt to bad!
