Title: Byron on History Channel Last Night
Post by: Gary Logsdon on June 03, 2008, 01:50:00 PM
Anyone catch Byron Ferguson on the History Channel last night?  It was good to have the simple bow represented among all the firearms segments.  They even illustrasted differences between the longbow and compound.

Yes it was great to see Byron on the show, with his longbow, shooting those impossible shots, I thought it great he didn't split the arrow on the first try ,,,, he is actually human , just like us ! LOL

I was really dissapointed in the "recurve longbow".  I really like seeing Byron shoot and it was a pretty good segment, but where in the world did they get their terminology?? dino

Semi recurve would have been more accurate terminology.  Today most folks call them hybrid longbows  :wavey: ...Van

Your right Van ... Hyrid or even Reflex/Deflex longbow would be a far better term.  Oh well, life goes on.... dino

i suppose it wasnt a total travesty of misinformation in calling it a recurve longbow, but it was nonetheless a great shot and a great show.  I miss seeing Byron on TV.  Was it shootingUSA he used to be on??  At least i can still see those great shots now and then

Most longbows today coppy a curve like a recurve for performance. Some do look more like a recurve in the limb compared to a old style longbow where the limb actualy curves the other way. I am a recurve shooter so I found it kinda funny.

Guys, I think it was great for Archery, especially traditional.  I was also impressed with them mentioning and showing clips of the great Howard Hill, introduce a new generation to him.

I really liked the show. Byron was great and the clips of Howard Hill were a real bonus. I enjoyed the rest of the show as well. The military snipers were impressive.

Great show! I missed the 8pm airing so I had to stay up until 1AM to see the replay. Amazing shots from Byron and the other guys who were shooting firearms.

I seems that Byron has switched to carbon arrows. I know he shot the Easton Legacy arrows for a long time.

I enjoyed watching Byron also, there were several misspoken words during the show but you could tell someone in an office somwewhere was doing the writing for the show.

Byron still does "Impossible shots" on Shooting USA, they alternate weeks with other shooters so he is on once a month or so.

They tried that trick on "Myth Busters" and said it was a myth as they could not do it with a machine doing the shooting.

pseman, TiVo is your friend, no staying up late to not miss shows and NO commercials, WaHoo!

I thought that it was very interesting that he shoots a 70 pound bow for those trick shots.

You have to overlook the post production slip up on the bow terminology.  At least they DID illustrate one of the main diffences between a traditional and compound bow, the necessity of pulling and holding at full draw using the shooters own power! Plus the history and excitement of archery was revealed to hopefully a new audience.

I think it was good. I would like to see Byron do the split the arrow trick with a wood arrow and a broadhead.

His accuracy with his bow shows how it can be done.... without the wheels and frills.

What I found funny; other than the 'recurve longbow' thing; was his form. He hit his hat with his string; and his release looked pretty horrible.

But like he says the arrow is in the target before he releases; and he certainly has an excellent 'follow through' with his thinking.

And seeing Howard Hill; that was cool.

Wouldn't it be great, if we could put together all the clips, shorts that Howard Hill did on a series of dvd and/or tapes, like the Fred Bear collection.  I am sure they would sell out.  Even better amend them with shot's/comment's from some of todays greats, Byron, John Schulz, Bob Wesley, Ron Laclair, Dave Miller, kind of a passing of toxopholite legacy.

It was a good show for sure....
I would like to see Byron try a trick shot that Mr Hill would do....
Mr.Hill would shoot an arrow straight up and when it came down he would shoot it with another arrow....Thats a trick shot....
One other thing I like about Byron is that he admits to missing a shot, now and again...

Todd I know have all of them and cherish them.  I just don't want to loose all the knowledge that these gentlemen posses and have attained.  It is a heritage and legacy I think we need to preserve.
