We just received the good news today, that Joe has been chosen to go to region 9 archery camp here in western NY. for three days in August. After he completes this camp he will have his bowhunters certification, this will be much more interesting then just sitting thru the course in a classroom.
Congrats!
I bet he's excited! He is already quite a bowhunter. No matter how much you know, there is still a bunch out there that you don't, though. Hope he has a great time and learns a lot.
I will want a full report! :saywhat:

Brian
Great Work! I know he'll enjoy the camp.
Any info that you can provide, would certanily be appreciated. 'd like to get something like that started here, in Alabama.
Way to go Joe! I hope you know how lucky you are to have a dad like Jim. Jim, do you get to go too or is it just for kids? I heard something about this a while ago but don't remember the details.
Very cool.I'll bet he's excited and you must be proud,Jim.And like you said,it has to be better than sitting thru a classroom course.Didn't know the DEC offered such a course...I'm gonna call them and see if they offer it here in region 3.
Alright Joe! Glad to hear it (though a little envious that I had to take the classroom course ;) )...
I don't think DEC does put on a course like that.
New York Bowhunters does and has been for quite a few years.
Here in region 4, we're have our 14th annual camp this August. Call your regional NYB rep to find out when the camp is in your area.
Not sure if Joe is going to a NYB camp, but he for sure is the type of young bowhunter that we aspire to turn out.
Have fun Joe.
I'm not certain if NYB is involved in this camp or not, we found out about it last year at the trad shoot at Hawkeye, this spring Joe went there to take his hunter safety course it was then we received the application. Joe had to do an essay that had to include this, why do you want to attend the camp, how do sportsman assist the department of environmental conservation in managing wildlife populations and why is this important? and last have you already obtained your bowhunter certificate? I can't remember all of what Joe had written but part of it was that he liked to shoot and hunt with his dad using traditional gear :bigsmyl:
Brent, the parents get to attend the last day for a chicken BBQ.
way to go Joe!!!!
congrats!
Congrats on getting picked......
Jim, Thats great ! Joe will eat that up. I'm not sure what camp in may be but in Region 8 our NYB camp is great. I have two local kids that I'm sending this year and eveyone that has ever gone loves it !
