I was bowfishing with Baretraks yesterday and shot this extremely strange looking carp. Here are pics of the carp by itself, and with a normal carp. Any ideas on what it is?

I have seen this on a few carp also. Maybe some kind of genetic thing with the scales?
Mirrored carp. There are a few around. From what I've read they usually stay deeper than other carp. Cool looking fish. Michael
Did they taste the same when you made a pie? :D
YEP pretty sure that s a mirror carp, shot one a few years back and I didnt notice any difference in taste
Definately a Mirrored carp. We have a local lake that's full of them. Body is only partially covered with scales. Ours are more gray in color but I'm sure that's what you have.

Yep mirro Carp.....a little chewier in my opinion but not fishy smelling :)

That dude has been living around a power plant, did he glow in the dark??????
mirror carp, a genetic mutation of the common carp
was rod serling any where nearabouts when you took it? LOL...
Bacote Carp!!
wild looking
I shot one years ago, had no idea what it was called.
Yep, I've fished for them in the UK. Definitely mirror carp.
Just got back from the zoo in Berlin and saw something like it there. Told my buddy that it looked like a messed up carp.
Found this thought it was interesting.

I have informally been keeping track of these Mirror Carp that I get here in Washington and have determined that about 5% are this kind. Their patchy and irregular scales give them a rather unique appearance. As far as table fare, they taste like crap...I mean carp.

Al i have shot them on my end of the river too,,just seem to be lacking scales,,some of the larger ones Ive shot look like that
Could you skin a bow with them?
Now I'm no expert on carp but I have to say this. I would give the regular ol' carp a try on the table; maybe I'd like it, maybe not but this Mirror carp ... I don't think I could move past that ugly toxic waste dump look it's got going on. Partial scales, some big, some little? That just ain't right. It has to be one of the ugliest fish I've ever seen. For once I can say I'd rather eat an opossum.
I think he should sell that sell that thing on E***, there's got to be a design in there that would appeal to somebody, a new concept and electronic fish market.
somebody ! :goldtooth:

In fact, these were breed especially for being tablefare! Over here, all you'll ever get is this kind of carp. No one would think of buying the wild specimens with fully scaled bodies - weired hmmm?!
I saw another one at the same place again today. I've bowfished this particular area for 17 years and have never seen a mirror carp. Must be a new intruder, invading the invasive species!
I probably bowfishing for ten years or more until I shot my first mirror carp. Then one season, it seemed one out of ten were of that variety. To me, it's always neat to pull in a mirror carp and look at the unique scale pattern. Call me odd, but I think they're cool.
Sweet
Man I can't believe you guys didn't know this. I was watching "Cheers" years ago and Cliff the mailman said it was a little known fact that carp shed after the spawn! Dang man come on! Even I knew this.
That is called an Isrial Carp. They were impoted to eat alge along with German Carp. A friend of mine use to have them brought into his private lakes. If they are in clean water they are good to eat with less of a mud streak down the middle of them.
