I was looking down the sting of my longbow with the bow behind it. I noticed the sting is close to center of the bow at the handle, but it is off to the left at the top and off to the right at the bottom. Like a very stretched figure 8.
Why would it do this and what effect will it have on arrow flight.
I cant say i have noticed, but a trined man might
Twisted limbs. On longbows, it's most often caused by improper stringing, i.e., the step through method. Sometimes, if the bow is left standing on one tip for months or years on end, a limb may also go off a little. And sometimes, the limbs aren't made straight when the bow is built. That's a possibility. You just may never have noticed before. It's always one of the first things I look at when I buy a new/used bow. If it's not off too bad, can just continue to shoot it. Applying moderate heat, with a hair dryer, for example, and twisting the limbs in the opposite direction of the current bend/twist may straighten them. Good luck.
Good to know, It is only 1/4" I believe off center, so not to bad. I will try some heat and bend.
is it a Morrison ? a lot of Morrisons the limbs are not completely center, they seem to shoot just fine though. I've had several like that
No it's is a custom I guess, not made for me, but at 68" long it helps with a 31" draw. Maybe we were meant to be
I'm 65 and my limbs are wearing down considerably. :smileystooges: :help:
