Well, after a long hard work period we've finally reached the milestone of no longer having a waiting list. We want to thank all of our customers for being patient while we worked through it. We worked as quickly as possible to achieve one of our goals for this year - get a bow into everyone's hands on the list.
Now, there's no more waiting list and we are working hard on another goal - delivering bows in 2-4 months after order. So far, so good on that one. And, actually having a few risers and limb sets in stock has enabled us to fill a couple of emergency orders within one day.
Thanks to everyone for their support!
Congrats John! That was a big mountain to climb there.
Now go get my new limbs done. :biglaugh:
When will the shorter versions be available? How short will they be?
Congrats John!! I know how hard you guys worked to put that behind you. Nothing but sunny days looking forward.
Mike
Congrats.... Keep up the good work.
Congrats John.....that is a milestone.
I got this lefty going out today back at ya.
Ya got Curt thinking about shooting a TD longbow.
Thanks for the effort, he and I appreciated it.
Thank you all for the kind words. Getting to this point has been a haul but fun none the less.
John, the newly designed short limb molds will enable us to build 3PTD longbows down to 56" in length when mounted on our 14" standard riser. Obviously when mounted on either of our 16" risers they end up being longer.
Terry, no problem on the lefty. Curt will just have to get cool like the rest of us smart, good-looking, and humble guys and start using a TD longbow! Thank you and TradGang for providing a forum for all of us trad folks. The growth of this website has been fun to see too!
Nicely done! The significance of this milestone is accentuated by the fact of the great customer service you folks offered during the process of achieving that milestone. I've picked a winner in you guys.....
Excellent stuff John, I waited about 10 months for mine and it was well worth that wait.
I think you should now spend all your "spare" hours on getting those recurve limbs done, I'll take the first set ;) , also excited about a one-piece.
Good work John and Larry. I missed you at the Kenosha shoot during Memorial Day weekend.
Mike
:notworthy: Congrats on the milestone
Thanks again to everyone for the encouraging words.
I was out of town this past weekend Mike - otherwise you would have seen me at the shoot. Hope you shot well!
Andrew, I spent most of yesterday working on the design for a new R&D recurve limb mold. The first one was quite good but there's more yet to be done. The one-piece designs are all done. We just need to find time to machine all the molds and fixtures necessary to make them. Thank you for your interest.
Hey John, happy for you guys and your success in this venture.. Also makes for a lot of happy customers, lol.
I'm sure the new recurve limbs will fit existing risers, no? What length will be available and do you have a projected start date on their manufacture ?
Again, many thanks.
Pat Byrne
Very nice John!! Very nice indeed,I'm sure there's a few folks that are glad to hear that LOL heck maybe someday I'll re order one from you so I'll know that I get it in a resonable amount of time.
Congrads and good luck with all your future venture's
Hi Pat,
It's too soon to tell if the limb mounting angle for the recurve limbs will be the same as for our longbow limbs. It probably will not be. We want everything to be optimum so I cannot say that the existing risers will fit the recurve limbs. Regarding timing, as we say on our website, it could easily be as long as next year before they are ready for sale. We won't rush getting them out. Only after we're satisfied that we have pushed their performance and stability to the limit will we be willing to release them. I just can't predict how many months that will take. Thanks for your business and support!
Congratulations John, you guys did that in very short order...and as others have attested, all while maintaining a superior product and superb customer service. Very rarely done :clapper:
And excellent news on the shorter limbs. What about previous limitation of 60#@drawlength, have you resolved that for normal production?
Will your recurve limbs offer a performance advantage to the longbow limbs.
Congrats to you and the team! Now, where are my new short limbs and long riser? :clapper:
So the Recurve will have the ACS design?? Wow that ought to give a little more zing. Is the ACS on the back or the belly. I honestly thought i could make one but I am still an amateur
John, It's will be good for many to hear you are working on the recurve and are at least starting to talk about it now. Hard to keep a secret. Ha! It will bring more options to your line of already fine bows. I'm am sure it will challenge your engineering side. Ha! Mike
JC, we are now making a few limbs in the 65# @ 28" range. Some turn out a couple/three pounds heavier sometimes, so yes - we now make and sell some limbs in that draw weight range.
It's too soon to tell if the recurve will offer much/any improvement over our hybrid longbow limbs. That's certainly the goal, but I would be guilty of raw speculation and guessing if I predicted that outcome. Recurve limbs (even ACS recurve limbs) simply carry more mass in the last 12 inches of the limb than our hybrid ACS longbow limbs of similar draw weight. Therefore their dynamic efficiency will probably be less. That means their energy storage efficiency must be higher than our hybrid longbow limbs. And THAT is the challenge. I'm working on it like a madman though.
Bjorn, patience is a virtue!! Actually your order is in the pipeline. Larry is afraid of you so I'm sure he will get them done as soon as possible!
Mike, yep, we really had to talk about it at some point. Just trying to keep expectations for performance parameters and production dates in line with reality is where we are now.
Way to go John, quality product from a great guy
Congrats John :wavey: :wavey: Good luck...Van
Congrats John and Larry! Can't wait to see whats down the road!
Got mine Fri. 62"65@28 and was surprised how quiet it was right out of the box. Great shooting bow and better than I thought.
John, I did very much appreciate the chance to finally get to shoot an ACS when I hunted with Terry last month, thank you for the opportunity sir!
I would like to try out a wood handled 3 pc. this time, under 60"....do you have anything like that available 55-60#?
I 'preciate your work.
I'm a satisfied customer with the one I received.
It's my fun bow, 'cause it's a lightweight; but sends 1916s with authority.
Thanks
Everyone, thanks again for your support and kind words!
Curt, you bet. We'll be able to find something for you to try out under 60" in that weight range in the near future. I deeply appreciate your posts that feature you and your son shooting bows together. They are very special to me in particular, but also to all of us here at the TradGang site.
John
John,
Has my Lignum Vitea dryed out any yet? Not in a hurry, just wondering if the material got checked up....
Mike, the riser block was laid up about a week ago and should be in the CNC in a few days. After a little checking and drying the blocks we cut for the riser ended up appearing very stable. The sawdust from that wood is by far the most waxy any of us have ever seen. If the Smooth-On can bond effectively to that wood it can bond effectively to any wood.
John,
The A&H ACS CX was the first longbow I ever shot after shooting recurves for the last 50 years since I was 5. I never thought I would like a longbow as much as a recurve, but your bow changed my mind. I bought the riser second hand from Shane Collier (a great guy) and got the limbs within a few days from Larry. That was about a month ago. From the first time I shot the bow I shot it as well as any of my recurves. It is as fast as any of my other bows and faster than some (based on similar draw weights).
Yours is a bow I will keep from now on. I have other favorites too that I also would not part with, but it is good to know that your bows compete with any measured from all performance standards. There is one area where you excel against all my other bows, and that is in the slim design and weight. Even though I have big hands your risers fit me well and I shoot very naturally and comfortably with them with almost no hand torque. If there is one minor item that is inferior to some of my other bows it is in the beauty department. There are definitely other bows out there that a much prettier, but for practical purposes yours look just great. I would rather have a great shooting bow than another pretty face, and that is where I see your bows.
If someone only wanted a single bow to hunt with, I would consider the ACS CX to be one of my top choices, and I know others who feel the same way. Thanks for all your good, hard work in getting these bows out to all your customers. I enjoy working with you guys and I really enjoy the bow. I hope you sell lots of them along with your new recurves.
If you can get the same kind of stability in the recurve as the ACS CX along with better performance (more speed), I can guarantee you I will be sending you a purchase order for one of those recurves. Do you have any idea whether there will be a speed increase for the same weight of bow, and if so, how much to you expect?
Thanks,
Allan
John, so you guys are also doing risers out of customer provided wood? If so, you really need to advertise that, that's a strong selling point for a truly custom bow, imho.
Hey Joe (somebody ought to make a song with that title - sorry, I couldn't resist!), we've talked about that but what if the wood chosen isn't suitable for a riser? Who takes responsibility for a failure? We definitely guarantee any of the exotic woods we offer but would need to consider the possibility of being sent an unsuitable riser wood. Something to think about though.
Referring back to one of your original questions - I see that we have a 64" set of limbs rated at 67# @ 28" in our "In Stock Products" section on our website.
Sure wish you'd have had that prior to my new foam/carbon Morrison limbs, that's why I sold the A&H. Great bow though. With the new lengths and weights you guys are offering, I may just have to start saving for another.
Understand about the wood issue, wonder how the other bowyers get around that?
Joe........I got a 67#er right here you can shoot.
Let me know when you wanna pic it up!
Too late Terry...I've found the one I've been searching for and I'm a one bow man...for now anyway ;)
this is one of the few bows i havent tried out from a michigan based bowyer. Im going to try real hard this year though.
Congratulations John! Hope to see you and Larry and Compton in a couple weeks.
John, Thank you for the kind words about the hunts with my son...I really enjoy sharing them with folks like you that I know will appreciate them :notworthy:
You let me know when you have something I can give a good workout...thank you sir!
Will do Curt.
John, any idea when you might have some of the short limbs (58") available?
thanks
Kevin
Kevin, we should have the short limbs generally available very soon. We have one 56"-58" limb mold finished and have made a few limb sets out of it already. We need to CNC another couple of molds so we can increase the number of limbs we produce.
thanks, John, I'll start "feedin' the pig".....
