Title: Those of you who knew Dean Torges, Ed Scott
Post by: frassettor on June 01, 2026, 02:14:49 PM
I have always wanted to meet these 2 craftsmen. I have always admired their work.
If any of you would like to share a story about them or have some of their bows you would like to show, please do . Would love to hear them and see more of their work  :campfire:  :coffee:

This is an Ed Scott built "Owl" bow that was owned by Ron LaClair. It's a left handed and 50 pounds at 28 inches. It's a beautiful bow, Ed was an incredible craftsman. Ron's son Bill will have this for sale at his outdoor vendor booth at Compton's in a few weeks.

Ray, is the sinew on that Ed Scott bow put down with hide glue or TBIII? I've heard he used TBIII(TiteBond3)

Pat,
I'm not sure of how it was glued down. I do know Ron was really excited about the bow when he brought it to camp the year he received it from Ed.  It's a cool little bow.  I shot it left handed in camp just to say I shot one of Ed's creations.  I don't believe Ron actually hunted with the bow.

Pat,
When we visited with Ed at 2015 OJAM he told us he was using TB111.

I met Dean at ETAR in the mid 90s. I purchased his Hunting the Osage Bow book. Later in the evening he stopped by my campsite and we talked bow building for an hour. He was a gentleman.

Thanks Walt. I had heard that somewhere. I've never tried it but I have used TBIII to seal a sinew backed bow. I prefer hide glue for anything using sinew.
Glad to see you are still poking around.

Hi Pat,

Hope you are doing well.

I have used TBIII for sinew backing for over twenty five years.
