Title: Blind Hog finds another kernel
Post by: Basinboy on March 17, 2026, 09:32:47 PM
Got some hogs that only show at night. Looked at hog feeder lights and being the frugal guy I am, I decided to build one. I ordered two red fog lights, a dimmer switch and a small 12v battery plus 100' of 14 gauge wire. Got it all hooked up, light mounted up about 10' high and ran the wire to my tree stand. Hooked it up and settled in for a sit. Around 9:45 I had concluded that they probably weren't coming till around 1am and was talking myself into climbing down. About that time I heard something coming in so I quickly turned the light on the lowest setting. Not sure how'd they would react to the light.
They came right in and started feeding. I slowly started turning the brightness up with no ill reaction from the 3 sows and one young one. After a few minutes one of the nice sows got broadside at about 11 yards. I drew the Black Hunter Recurve and let the string slip away. I didn't have a lighted nock so I wasn't sure where I hit her but I knew where I was looking and it felt good!  I gave her 30 minutes and found her about 30 yards away. Only an entrance hole but the VPA put plenty blood on the ground and trees. She was very healthy with lots of fat. Going to be fine eating.
