Alright guy's I'm sure we have played this game before, but I couldn't find anything on a search.Where is the cheapest place to buy the gas refills on a thermacell. At 6.50 a pop there has to be a better way.I have also heard of modifying the thermacell and using larger cartridge.Any secrets out there?

Had a Thermacell in the box for about a year.  Tried it out yesterday with the sketters.  Seems to work pretty well.
Question:  I have heard of using the used pads for ELK SCENT with the Thermacell - anyone tried it yet???

I have used the pads with tink's the last two years for deer, but not for elk.  Thermacell makes an attachment that clips onto the unit that you can slide the scent pad into.  I use it at the same time I have the repellant pad in to help with covering what little scent the unit puts out.  I've had deer come in straight down wind with no concern at all.  Havn't even thought of using it for elk, just don't know if it would be worth hauling up and down the mountains, I already carry too much stuff to begin with.

Stock up at the end of the season. Can usually get them around half price.

If anyone doesn't have one yet, Cabela's and not sure about WW have a free holster with unit purchase. I think the holsters are about $10 and worth all of it.....

The scent pads dry out in less than an hour. Be careful using scent for elk. Some places it is not legal.

A friend of mine was going to research the chemical in the pads and see if it would be possible to resoak the pads as they are the expensive part of the Thermacell. He has not reporte anything back so far.

The big auction place does always have bigger cartridges for cheap but they use an adapter, which is usually included and you have to leave the cover off as the cartridge is longer.

I have a thermacell in my pack but I rarely use it. Permanone on my clothes, face mask, gloves etc seems to do the trick and keep the bugs away. If the buzzing gets to bothering me, I will fire up the Thermacell for about 30 minutes and shut it back off. I can get a lot of time from a pad and cartridge.

I get mine off Exxy- 9.50 gets you 11 "double" cartridges and two converters to allow your thermacell to handle them.

That makes it like 22 cartridges for 15.00 bucks when you add shipping...thats cheap bug protection.

Call me Hillie and I will tell you about it..you have my cellie.
