He sent this picture to our text group every year
:campfire: He is missed by many. A true pillar in the traditional world. Will Geer in "Jeremiah Johnson" was classic. Some people, and the memories, will live in the heart forever.
He is missed by many.
I'm so glad I still have a CD of his stories. :archer:
Yup. I think of our buddy often.
I didn't know Ron very well, but talked to him a few times on the phone. He was a wealth of info and fun to talk to.
He set me up with a 51# classic Hunter and a set of Sitka Spruce arrows from Paul Jalon. It was a nice setup.
It is tough tho - getting older. I lost a good friend a couple of weeks ago. We went into the Army together in October of '72.
He had some awesome pics from back in the day, and I'm sure some awesome stories to go along.

He really did....I have said this before, and I am pretty sure I am stealing this from a movie.....but we had some lively times!
Talked to Ron several times and bought some cedar and spruce arrows made by Paul Jalon. He did have a creative mind.
I thought at one time Ron was working on a book, it would be a great if someone could compile his work and share it with the entire archery community.
Will hold on to and use his Shrew Hawk and mini shaver knife for a long time.

Always enjoyed our time together at Elm HALL each year, he would come and hang out in my camp and we had some very good conversations around the fire, he had lots of stories and was always interested in mine.
Pappy
Fine man I only got to talk to on the phone.

It was back in 2007-2008 when i first really got into building bows, and was impressed by his Shrew design. I was amazed how he built those 54" bows to draw 30".
So i contacted him and told him i had a photo of one of his bows on my work bench, and really wanted to try building one myself. Ron said that he would take that as the highest compliment. Go for it!
So i gave it a go, and built one similar. Actually i built a few before i got it right. but i never sold one. This one was mine. I used elk hunting for a couple years and shot 1000's of arrows through it before it developed a "Click", and i quit shooting it after that. It holds a place of honor in my shop collecting dust and has been there a lot of years now. I think of Ron every time i look at it.
54" - 57 @30".

And there are a TON of them on this site.
Yes, I miss him also. :campfire:
I bet yall had some times up there in that cabin sipping Basil! I always had admiration for the camaraderie. Loved talking with Ron. He is missed!
