Who is the best/worst manufacturer of Black Hunter bows? Pro and cons.
I need an lightweight inexpensive bow to rehab shoulder.
Not a manufacturer of Black Hunter bows, but probably your best bet for quality would be Big Jim, since he inspects all the Black Hunter bows he sells, and would no doubt reject any that had defects.
I have a Top Archery 60" laminated recurve bow. I purchased a 35lb bow which measured 38lb@28" on my scale. The bow came with a string for a 58" bow. I shoot off the shelf and think the radius from shelf to riser could be smaller, but shoots fine. I think the bow looks OK and the fit and finish is good for a $99 bow.
The one I would go with having owned a BH in the past would be the Toparchery Warden 1.0, its a 60" take down recurve. Jeff Phillips recently did a good video on YT about it. I think the price was around $100 plus or minus. Might be just the ticket for a rehab bow.. Good luck!
Consider a used bow. If you can find one at a good price you can resell it with minimal money loss after your rehab is done.
I got mine from stickbowsupplies.com and I'm very happy with it. :archer2:
Probably a bit riskier but I bought several off of Amazon without any issues. All were in great shape.
Amazon - cheap & free shipping.
The ones I got were fine. Also got another 3 or 4 sets of limbs as well.
I bought a 30# Black Hunter off Amazon. I am pleasantly surprised how well it shoots after making a B50 Flemish string for it.
Thanks for the replies.
Big Jim for the Black Hunter ... good stuff.
I searched Big Jims website and Stick bow supplies website and could not find any listing for Black Hunter bows.

He was still selling them last year out of his booth at the Tennessee Classic. Maybe he stopped carrying them, I don't know.

It's a fair bet that the china tariffs are the cause.

Another possibility could be price. One of my students wondered if I had any bows I wanted to sell. I looked over my rack of old bows and thought about maybe selling her a Black Hunter. I thought about offering it to her for $100, but then it occurred to me that I had better check the prices at Amazon first. They're for sale new at Amazon for less than $90! So I guess I'll just steer her in that direction instead. Maybe Big Jim had the same idea.

Also depends on what "Black Hunter" - ones with multi lam risers or the plain risers. Big Jim's were all the fancier multi lams.
