Title: New Bear Mag Riser and Limbs
Post by: Roger Norris on February 16, 2026, 09:58:42 AM
While I was at the Kalamazoo Expo I fell in love with the Bear Mag (A) riser and #3 limbs, in the "Fred Bear Camo"....I have always liked the Mag riser, I still have my Dads from the 70's. The grip is perfect for me, and I was not suprised that it shot really well for me.

Kind disapointed in the string gooves though. They are really sharp on the edges...steel wool?

Otherwise this is going to be a fun bow to hunt with. I fletched up some 400 FMJ's for it, and have 150 grains up front. Arrows are flying like darts. Pics soon.

use a chain saw file very gently, and polish with 220 grit or 320 grit sand paper. Then use steel wool.

What Kirk said X2. I have done a few for folks at the club. Those "imported " bows. It usually starts out "why is my string fraying on the loop"? It got so I kept 220 and 320 grit wet/dry sandpaper in the car. To seal it I used Tru-oil on a Q-tip.

The A mag with #3 limbs has become my favorite. The last few years I've hunted with #1 limbs. I shoot them the same, but the #3 limbs are a bit smoother drawing.

I love that camouflage riser.Mine is one of the original ones,A handle,#1 limbs. Its always been a great bow.Im glad they brought it back out.Im able to use the same limbs as my Bubinga TD,,no fitting issues, creaks or groans.I have bear limbs and Rose Oaks. The current Bear limbs are great. My mag handle and wood handle are almost identical in weight. They are set up to shoot the same set of arrows.

I have always liked the look of these bows but out of the twenty or thirty bows I've owned, have never owned one.

I have been offered a couple in trade but for whatever reason I declined. Usually I had another particular bow in mind. What are the best years of manufacture for them?

I have one from 1982 that I still use with #3 limbs for turkey hunting out of a blind. I just strung it up yesterday!

Your Bow looks great Jegs.,  I have 2 Bear "B" takedowns.  An early 80's Green Stripe and a 2012 Black Maple with the Red Stripe, both have #1 limbs and I love them both. I have had them for about 2 years and wish I would have gotten them sooner.   Kurt
