This thing is an absolute tack driver, right out of the box! With no tinkering other than an estimated arrow length and point weight, I was slamming bullseyes at 20 and 25 yards from the first shot. The thing is absolutely tiny and feather light. 52" long, 51#@28". Threw on a GT trad blem, 32.5", 125 weight field point (will cut this down and add point weight ASAP). It also doesn't hurt that it is a complete work of art. Gregg is amazing. :archer2:
@Maclean, thank you for all the advice and pics! I ended up getting myrtle burl and G10 in the riser, and lightly stained olive ash limb veneers, along with moose antler overlays on the handle and tips. I love it!
Very, very nice! :archer2:
:bigsmyl: Beauty! Congrats.
That's a sweet looking rig Johnny! Gregg never disappoints.
I have the same impressions of the 52" Magnum, I'm simply amazed by how well this short bow shoots. It puts a smile on my face every time I shoot it. Gregg Coffey is a genius.
I'll be sharing some new pics any day now. :archer2:
Nice looking bow...and equally as nice shooting. Looks like you and your bow were made for each other!
Nice bow and great shooting, congrats.
Looks like you're sitting pretty, beautiful bow for sure
Nice Bow! Great details in the craftsmanship.
Short bows often get a bad wrap for accuracy. I suppose design is what it's about when you get one that behaves well. That is one sweet lookin stick Johnny.I never met a Burl I didn't like. Congrats and enjoy!
Got a soft spot for shortys myself..that's a real nice looking bow! I have a longer draw and been shooting with my 54" Shrew for a few years. 34"long shafts work good for me..With those arrows shooting like that..I wouldn't go chasing heavy rainbows too far..by the sound of it..you got the hunting magic dialed first try!
This is the same opinion my 3 friend and myself have about the Magnum 52". Difficile to Miss with these incredible smooth fast and accurate little demons. We prefere the 52" Magnum to the 56"😱

I agree, the grips on the Elkhearts are fantastic. I think it's one of the reasons they shoot so well. Gregg will do whatever you want grip wise, but the standard is hard to improve on.
Johnny, you're going to have to update your bow list in your signature.
That is the best-looking piece of Myrtle I have ever seen! Very Nice!

100% agreed! and the moose antler makes for an amazing gripping point for my fingers. don't even need a leather wrap on it for me.
@Maclean and how cool is that, that your bow and mine have risers from the same block of wood?! myrtle burl doing work in vastly different parts of the country! I think that is awesome, and I instantly recognized it when I saw your pics.

I think it's cool too. That block of myrtle burl obviously came from a left handed tree.
Congratulations on not only a fine looking bow but an awesome shooter :archer2:

Wow! Beautiful woods and craftsmanship AND it shoots so well for you. You can't beat that.
Thanks for you guys sharing with us (AND sharing the same block of riser wood too, that is so cool)

Very pretty bow looks fun to shoot . I've never tried one and I've tried a few

I'm loving it! have always been a fan of smaller, lightweight bows, and this one appears to be the pinnacle of that style. only 52" in length, but smooth as butter at my 28" draw. was super easy to tune. massive fan of the grip. and even though short/light bows can be finicky, this one almost feels like it's "telling me" when my grip/release/follow through aren't good. I can sometimes torque the string when coming to my anchor point, and this bow practically says, "hold up. you're torquing!". it's very strange, and very cool! it's 100% the best I have ever had arrows tuned to any of my bows.
edit: so here's what ended up working best for this bow (a slight change after some bare-shaft work). 51#@ 28" draw. GoldTip Traditional 3555's (.500 spine), cut to 30.5". point weight between 125-150 grains. regular aluminum inserts. Three 5" shield cut feathers. I added weight tubes from 3 Rivers to get to a 540 grain arrow. they fly great. and best of all, the most dead-on shots I had today were with broadheads, so that's awesome.
Short bows get a bad rap..I started with 48" recurves for a couple seasons..then 52" shrew for a while..now past two yrs 54" Shrew..its amazing what you can do with this short reflex\deflex style bow if you ask me..I just tried a 66" BlackWidow for a couple weeks..not for me..was so good to get back shooting my 54"Shrew..I don't think ill ever shoot another style of bow.
Great thread i ordered one too before anyone really owned one here so i was nervous about the performance and not getting to try one first,, i may go and order a 2nd one,,,,i like having some of my bows set up for woodies and others for aluminum and carbon its s mood thing..

couldn't be happier with it. if you like short bows and have halfway consistent form, and a little bit of skill tuning, it's a can't-miss!
