Title: Hunting during snowfall?
Post by: Tajue17 on January 19, 2026, 12:55:25 PM
As i sat in my tree yesterday and already had brushed snow off my fletching, shaft and broadhead 2 times i wondered what other feather shooters would do,,,,, do you leave the snow as it lands on everything or do you brush it off?  Notice my tracer something new im trying but even the tiny line from that was catching snow.

My broadheads are mounted vertically, and I usually hang my bow so snow removal there isn't an issue.  I do blow it off the feathers occasionally if there's a substantial build up.  Otherwise one gets a face full of snow when you shoot. Doesn't happen very often, but snow also means I take up the blood trail much quicker.

Depends on how much snow I guess. We do get a lot of snow some years, and ALWAYS get wind. I'd be more concerned with Orion's last sentence.
My brother in law lost a deer when heavy snow and wind kicked in obliterating the trail.

Ive hunted alot in snow storms . I hunted in one where it was snowing so heavy that I had to keep shaking myself off as there wasn't much wind I shot a doe and a little later a nice buck came by on the same trail I shot over his back . I got down to look for the doe and I went up the trail and seen a mound of snow it was her . I had a terrible time getting out of that place with my old suburban the bumper was pushing snow all the way . Deep snow is death here to the deer, when snow comes it stays till spring. Ive shot some pretty nice bucks in the winter but its getting too hard for me to get them out now I think Im going to have to buy a snowmobile I cant just quit.

When I was a young man I had a set of white coveralls that I used just for snowy days. They had a drag rope and knife in the pockets because when I went out I was going to be dragging something coming home! I loved hunting in the snow fall. Most of the time I went into standing corn.

MnFn,, i almost lost deer also when hunting while it was snowing for me the droplets melted into the snow and disappeared,, im trying that string tracker now... any time i see one of those plastic kid sleds especially the 3 person in the trash or at a summer yard sale i grab it for the late season.
