Post by: Clj on December 19, 2025, 09:57:44 PM
Does anyone know the recommended brace height for one of Brian's new longbows?

I don't know how long it is and don't own one I would start at 6.5 and find the sweet spot.

Got in touch with Brian. He said around 7" should be good. Thanks.

Not trying to hijack your thread but how do you like your wessel longbow? I have a tall tines recurve that I love and is my main bow. Been considering getting a longbow for quite a while.

If you don't mind post some pics up of his new longbow. I'm sure many would like to see it including myself. I have 5 of his Stickflingers from back when he owned Tall Tines. Brian is a talented bowyer!

This is a new Wessel longbow I just got right before Christmas. I'll try and get a pic of it strung-up posted tomorrow when I get the chance. But this pic shows you the redesigned riser.

This is a 64" Wessel Archery Longbow, strung up with a 7" brace height. Bow isn't even a month old yet.

I keep forgetting to take pics and post them on here. Posting a couple pics from when I traded for mine (not my personal pics but show the riser nicely)

That looks awesome, I never did get around to buying one of his stickflinger LB models.

Have to make up for that & have him build me a Wessel longbow!

I did have him build me a new recurve-great shooter!

How does his longbow shoot and handle and how is the performance on them? He definitely builds a nice looking bow.

The grip is very comfortable. His limb design is one where you don't feel a lot of pre-load as with some other more extreme reflex deflex longbows. I don't have a chronograph, but it casts an arrow quite nicely. I think it's a pretty fast longbow. Others have reported zero hand shock. I'm finding there's a little hand shock with mine. It's far from the worst I've felt. Almost every single black widow PL I've ever tried has had more. It's an accurate bow. Brian cuts the shelf past center. I can also mention that, while I've never shot a stick flinger model, I've been told that this new model is an improvement on the stick flinger. But that's just me repeating what someone else said. Overall, it's a very good bow. Personally, I have a strong preference for my Thunderhorn 3 piece Heartstoppers and this Wessel, as good as it is, hasn't at all swayed me away from my Thunderhorns.
