I have been making my own silencers from 100% Fishermans Wool for years. I have a bow that I have had trouble getting quiet and have been working on it for a month. So on Sunday I thought I would try some Wooly Whispers from 3 Rivers. Got them today and my bow is really quiet now. Does anyone know what wool they use to make them? The Fishermans Wool is 100% but does silence near as well.
Not sure. But I too make my own Wooly whispers from wool yarn as well.
I use wool yarn myself. Have done that for over 50 years.
I am using wool yarn myself but it is different from the wool in the wooly whispers. Wondered if they were made of alpaca, merino, etc.
it may be that your not making them dence enough, i use wool yarn also. 60-70 wraps around a credit card size. then cut both sides and place between bundles, i never tie them in, and they stay put, trim to size after they fuzz out.
( if using a thick yarn , 40-50 wraps might be enough)

I have tried them in many different sizes and weights, even put them on my grain scale. I have a jig that I made to make them on and can vary the size by moving my golf ball tee's to different locations and make puffs from 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 inches. I also bought some of the super heavy puffs from TTT Bowstrings and had the same result, matter of fact those were so heavy and dense that they added more noise. I tried the super dense navajo wool silencers from 3 Rivers Archery, same result. Tried catwhiskers too. This bow just like those Wooly Whispers the best.
